the commercial shows a child placing a cat into a clothes dryer. This ad needs to be protested and taken off TV - pronto. Please send an email.

This is the response I got from Energizer...

In response to concerns regarding one of Energizer's new spots in which a
mother intervenes on behalf of the family cat to keep him out of harms way:

"Our new spots depict how every day people overcome life's daily

challenges to keep going. In the case of the mother of four young

children, she moves through the house with baby in arms to break up a

food fight, end an art project on the wall, disrupt a gymnastics

display on the couch and rescue the family cat. It is all in a day's

work for a busy mom. Through it all she keeps her cool and keeps

    going.

We apologize if we have offended anyone with this spot. We

wanted to show how much of a hero moms can be.

These commercials were filmed in New Zealand and the Humane

Society of New Zealand was invited to be present during the filling.

At no time was the cat mistreated and all proper care was maintained

    at all times.

    Question/Comment:
PLEASE don't give kids any MORE ideas on how to torture cats. That one
where the kid is putting the cat in the dryer is too much, and don't think
it won't occur to them to try it.
    Thank you.

<sigh> They just. don't. get it.

I had to bring this post back up.

I was watching TV last night and saw the commercial - BUT, I didn't see what you guys were talking about.

I think they changed the commercial.

The woman pulls a basket of eggs out of the dryer - I think that's the part they changed (unless I'm missing something - I didn't see the original).

If they did change it, good job to all the people who raised their voices to make a change

oops...i just got finished writing them.... before i read the rest of the posts!!! hee hee.

welll anyway....this is what i said...im sharing it cause i think it sounded good.

"i would prefer not just the standard response back. i have read ms. boudreau's response to the cat in the dryer commercial. children are not able to differentiate in a commercial the message you are trying to send. they see a cat...in the dryer..and think it is something they can do also. small children are not sophisticated enough to determine what message your commercial is trying to send. isnt it just as easy to use another example that would be benign...instead of a potentially destructive and hurtful event? and...if you send the standard response....you should be ashamed of yourself and your lack of compassion and social responsibility..."

i have never written in before on anything. i sorta have a little adrenaline goin on...maybe i should be a lobbyist or something....hee hee

I think perhaps a letter of gratitude is in order now since they were kind enough to 'fix' the ad :)

Well done gals, and good response Energizer Co!
