Hello! I came home to find a large area of missing hair on my cat (larger than a nickel). Anyone have anything like this?

Hi and welcome to Auspet. :D What does the skin area look like where the fur is missing? Do you feel any lumps or bumps? Where is it located? Is your kitty scratching or licking this area? If you are worried, it's always best to take kitty to the vet.

    Hello and welcome!

    More questions for ya.....

Does your cat go outdoors? Any other cats/animals in the house? Does it look like a scab? How old is you furbaby?

and...to quote Chessmind.....if your worried, take her to the vet.

No my cat doesnt go outside...it is red, a little scabby and its getting bigger...I am just afraid to go to the vet and have them charge me $100 to tell me she licked her hair off! I cant afford that. When do I get nervous?

a simple exam should only cost about 35 dollars, if there is no treatment. your cat could have a food allergy. sometimes that causes hair loss. but...hair loss is not normal. so anytime something abnormal is going on and you dont know what it is...should be checked out. sometimes its best to catch it early, rather than waiting until its a big problem.

    just a thought....

and if its getting bigger...it sounds like a problem. it would be different if it were getting smaller....
