i dont know if it is but i found not a totally bald but a spot on shadys lower belly where the hair looks like it has thinned ALOT. he also scratches his ears alot and i read that could be mites, he had them when he was a baby but he got meds for them...also i put revolution on him and i thought that takes care of mites, fleas, and different worms. i am a wreck! please tell me what it could be,am i paranoid? is this signs of any other illnesses? can mange be treated? i know its contagious..the kitten is in my room, hasnt even really been near him yet..please help me, im a mess, i cant lose another cat

The bald spot could be an allergy, one of my cats keeps getting bald spots on his legs and back which is due to an allergy, the most common thing cats are allergic to is flea bites, I haven't heard of revolution so I don't know how effective it is in killing fleas, a good way to check if your cat still has fleas is to get a bit of white paper or card wet it a little and either ruffle the cats fur or comb the cats fur onto the paper, if there are fleas the fleas dirt will turn a red colour when it gets wet, my vet did this with my cat just this week.
I have always treated ear mites with drops that go in the ears supplied from my vet, as I say I haven't delt with revolution before so I don't know how effective it is, but I thought that eardrops were the only way to treat earmites.
I haven't ever delt with mange but I found this website
    http://www.lbah.com/sarcoptic_mange.htm
I'm sure whatever your cat has it is cureable so don't worry so much, you may have to go to the vet to get a proper diagnosis

I believe revolution can be used to treat ear mites...but they also can remain dormant and come back especially if the cat or kitten's immune system might be compromised. To determine if an animal has mange the vet will have to do a skin scrape.

There is always the possibility of ringworm too. I'd do a google search for both ringworm and mange and see if that is what it looks like your kitty might have.

But also could be stress related or allergies. Lots of possibilities

It's easy for cats to catch mites, fleas, and worms. The balding spots could be lots of other different reasons as well. Ginger and Mary just got you some good advice. These are all treatable and manageable. Check with your vet.

    Here's some info on ringworm:

Generalized read, I'm not endorsing their products:

Ultimately, your vet should determine any problems with Gigi and help with the resolution.
Sorry, I forgot to edit and add Shady in there!

hThank you all so much for the info u have given me. after reading up on these things more shady doesnt seem to have symptoms of these. Maybe it IS from stres?! i will definately call the vet. i cant take him until friday though because thats when we get paid. Until then Him and GiGi will be seperately as i already am until she can be retested for FELv. im a paranoid one if you cant already tell :|

see shady just looks like he is Thinning some what on his belly. well lower belly. And his ears are clean as a whistle. Heck i dunno, thats why im not the VMD lol..i will defiantely call her and tell her though and take him in there asap. if she will allow me to post date a check, ill have him in there today. thanks again!

If it's just stress and has no other symptoms, you could probably take him in on Friday as opposed to today. But that's a judgement call. It's so nice to see someone care about their kitties so much! I'm sorry Shady didn't get to enter this photo contest. Maybe the next time?

All skin diseases are pretty scary. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it isn't, but it's always so hard to tell!! I'm fairly confident, tho, that a skin problem won't kill your kittycat. At worst it'll require a food change or some medication.
Revolution actually works on sarcoptic mange, too - for dogs at least. You can read about it at www.revolution4cats.com . It's never let me down, either for ear mites or fleas. In my experience, tho, anything that had to do with their skin made their ears itch - I have no idea why!!
I hope your vet can ease your fears, Daniella. Good luck. :)

thank you soo much! yea i looked at his ears and they are clean! this is his 2nd dose of revolution. the vet told me not to worry cause he was at the vet a little over a week ago to be checked cause of my kitten being so ill and she said he was perfect on his pysical so im gonna wait till we get paid friday and take him in. i didnt wanna get into asking about post dating checks unless it was an emergency! thanks again everyone!
