Another question on house breaking

Hi there everyone. I'm a proud new owner of a male shihpoo. He's 2 months old. I've been reading the forums on housebreaking, and I've caught Max a couple of times using the potty. When I stop him and take him outside, he doesn't complete his job, just wondering if this is going to hurt him or not? He doesn't "go" again for awhile. Thanks.

Hi Mary, and WELCOME to the board!!!

CONGRATS on your new baby!

Are you saying that you have caught him eliminating indoors where he is not supposed to? If yes, that is great, it is ALWAYS best to catch them in the act and correct it right then and there.

If you caught him eliminating indoors, he still may be a little startled from being caught in the act, which will cause his muscles to tense up a bit. When the muscles tense up, most dogs won't go to the bathroom. Give him a few minutes to relax, and the rest of "it" may, or may not, come. Just be sure to give him plenty of opportunities to go out (especially after times like these where you caught him in the act, and he didn't finish when you took him out afterwards...the rest of it may come a short while later  )!

Best of luck on your new puppy! :D

    Thanks for your reply

Thankyou for your reply. I'm so proud of him tonight. I had him for 3 days and he finally used his box(at least for the first job). I have read that these dogs are smart at catching on. Hopefully he will keep going.
