She uses American out of birmingham Miss Puttin ..northwest is a problem ,not that she does not use the airline ,she does ,but only to Alaska ,in certain other areas ,in Birminham Northwest has what they call vip ,not cargo (cargo was shut down after 911 and some airlines out of B'ham made alot of changes .
The price on NW is almost triple for the same flight as American and American has the same quality place for animals .We have used them for alot of years now ,nothing has ever went wrong .She actually uses American more than any ,the pilots have had pictures taken with what htey have called the queens and kings of their airline (the puppies ) .HAHA ,she demands they do their utmost to protect them .alot of poeple at the airline in B'ham have her puppies too .They could not resist after seeing them for so many years .I was htere once with her and a manager came running from the back room asap as she was getting one settled on the ticket ,he took out the puppy and held it and said "haven't seen a really beautiful dog since the last time you were here Shirley ,couldn't let a chance to hold one of yours pass by ,now ,could I "
i get to smile alot when I am with her at those places like that ,you would too if you truly knew her .

I had read her site and had listened to what she had said. but had not called them yet , as its still a good six weeks or so away. American sounds great to me. Like I said I trust whom Shirley wants to go with. So American it is. :y_the_best:

Alot of airlines are temp controling their cargo part of the plane. it is best to ship counter to counter. that way the pup don't set some where in the cold or heat too long at a time. My son and son in law work for two different airlines.

    TO kindness ,
malti sends hugs and good wishes to you too .

    To mybabyshihpoo,
malti says to ask denise and Jaspers mom and several others here how good their dogs were shipped and it ain't no sugar coating to it .all you gotta do is ask someone that knows and got their puppy from someone that cares .Too many rummors and stuff on the net that just don't jive with the real thing .And experts can write about anything they want ,does it always make them right .I am an expert in my field but there are many that disagree with me .If I wrote an online page about it ,it becomes in my opinion ,not always the facts as others would see it that would have facts to the other side .Then they write a page and so on and so on .experts are people too and only have opinions ,just like us ..
sure there are breeders out there that are worthless and send their dogs as cheap as possible ,but the airlines are getting strict about that and we have a cousin that works for Northwest in another state ,he says it is not as bad as some make it out to be .cabin temps ,no puppies going down luggage shoots ,he says the only puppies that ever have many problems are the ones that come from bad breeders .He said you can tell those right off .That is what gives all breeders a bad rep is those bad ones that don't care ,no sugar coating the truth .Your puppy is only as good as the breeder you get it from .Shipped or not .
Malti says she likes you .
    okay with me I guess.

Miss Puttin ,your little girl is being mean tonight .She already screamed until she woke up Shirley and all she wanted was to be held .Stood at the gate and just screamed .I thought she was dying .Shirley got up ,held her for a few minutes ,let Sammy lick her ,petted the boys ,petted Lucy and I think she has gone back to bed .But that girl is spoiled if you ask me .You got problems coming ,when she wants her way ,she gets it .Her whole face was wet from just standing there yelling for Shirley .And she didn't want me .I tried ,would sit her back down there she went off again .Shirley whispers ,coos at her for 5 minutes ,gives her kisses and lets Sammy also and now she is asleep with her mom as nice as if nothing ever happened .Spoiled brat .I could have finished the pages I was working on had it not been for her screaching like that ,scared me to death .

Oh No Puttin, Shirley is creating a spoiled baby like she did all 3 of mine! We still say thats what is wrong with Lyle... she spoiled him so bad, then I get him and Gracie spoils him... but me? Na, I wouldn't ever spoil a maltipoo!!!! LOL!!!!!

About the shipping.... let me tell you, had a real fun time trying to get Gracie shipped to me! It was in August and the temps were 90 degrees or better. Shirley and I spent TWO WEEKS trying to schedule flights that would be suitable to the temps. Plus, SHE would not fly Gracie out until SHE felt comfortable that she would be alright. Those were the longest 2 weeks of my life, but I wanted her to come to me safe. I ended up driving to Philly after working 9 hours, picked her up, and turned around and drove home. 4 hours each way!!! got home at 4:00am... was up almost 24hrs... BUT SHE WAS WORTH IT!!!! We ended up flying her in at a later time at night when the temps were lower. Shirley made so many trips back and forth to the Birmingham airport just to try to get her to me, but if the conditions weren't right, she would trun around and drive all the way back home... 5 hours one way for her. She did this for 2 weeks until we could get favorable conditions that suited Shirley!!!

Sammy was flown in at the end of May, and there were no problems!!!! He was the talk of the Harrisburg airport... Shirley had so many stuffed animals in with him that we couldn't find him! He was a little black ball of fur... and we HAD to take him out so the cargo personnel could see him and hold him. He's been stealing peoples hearts ever since!

Both my babies that were flown came through with flying colors (no pun intended) and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. With the crazy people that drive these days, sometimes I think they are safer flying!!! LOL.

I drove to meet Shirley in Washington for my little Lyle! It was a beautiful trip and well worth the outcome... Mr. Lyle was hiding under the motel bed when we got there... and he was a little angel all the way home!!!!

You can trust whatever way Shirley picks for you, cause if she isn't happy about the way things are.... they don't go!!!!

Maltipoolover: Oh boy she is setting me up huh. LOL You know I hate to say it but my poodle I have right now is pretty much treated the same way malti treats that little one. She gets to sit and sleep where ever she wants. always cozied on my lap while on the computer. This girl had sent me to the e.r. a few years ago for stitches on my lip. But I am still in her face. She is much more trusting now. But I love giving those doggie kisses. Sasha is just going to have to get used to being a two queen home.

Maltipoomama; Thanks for your addition to the convo. Makes everything clearer for everyone. I think even better for others interested. I know a few of the people at the poodle forum I go to are reading this too, so they can see how much she loves all her dogs. When I get Lilly, Then I will post her pictures there.

Puttin she is adorable! I am so excited for you! I also was thinking about Sasha and hope she takes it all well. It can be hard for a queen to accept new things lol. Been there but it all worked out in the end and we are one big happy family!

Oh, okay, again, just curious. I thought maybe she was allowed back in but had to "start over" with a new screen name and such! Malti's sister - it's great that you're there to help her out...that's what family is for!!! :y_the_best:

Yes, the vast majority of them are now. Their temp. control is activated when the plane is in flight.

In response to Malti's letter to me...I'll just give my humble opinion on it:

I'm sure Denise and Jasper's mom will tell me that their puppies came out of if it okay - however, just b/c the pups came out alive doesn't mean all was fine and dandy before, during, and after the flight)!!! When I spoke of a sugar-coated version, I was not speaking about what you are referring to. What I was speaking about is this, if you want a NON sugar-coated version of what goes on "behind closed doors" (which you, nor anyone one else who hasn't worked on an airline will see), don't speak to one of the airline's customer service representatives...they will NOT tell you the negatives of what goes on after the puppy is handed over to the airline employees (believe me, I've heard a few airlines' spiels regarding pet shipping)!!!

I'm afraid that tells me absolutely nothing about what goes on after the puppy is handed over to the airline, during the flight, and after the flight (up until the owner picks up the dog)!

I'm afraid I disagree with you there, coming from someone (not me, an individual whom I know and trust) who worked on a few airlines for 13 years, much of what is commonly known (which you refer to as "rumors") is sadly the truth. As I stated before, the problems weren't exactly the minority either. No one wants to hear the "bad and the ugly," but it's important to at least acknowledge them.

Nope, that's where investigation on your part comes in...after thorough investigation (talk to other experts, talk to those who have seen it for their very own eyes, don't just go upon your limited view, read up on it, etc.), then decide whether you think the expert is right or wrong!

There is a distinct difference between an expert and non-expert, trust me on that one. Would you prefer a licensed doctor (an expert, and docs have opinions) to perform open-heart surgery on you, or an un-licensed individual who hasn't gone through med school? I'm sure you would choose the Doctor! Why, b/c he/she is an expert in that area!

Don't discredit all experts (especially on the basis that they disagree with you), we can learn a lot from them...and we can even learn a lot from non-experts!

Nope, even a dog who came from an EXCELLENT breeder can have problems! That's like saying a dog from an excellent breeder will never have or develop any behavioral problems...it's just not logical, and holds no truth! :!: Even the best bred dog can have problems during flights!!!

Basically, my opinion is that shipping would be a very, very, very last resort to me...I would avoid it at all costs, and not just do it for convenience sake. I disagree with those who never were an airline employee who truly saw what goes on (behind closed doors), and try to say that flying is a cake walk for the puppy/dog, and the dog is not negatively impacted in any way...that' simply not the case for many dogs. Just b/c the dog came out alive, and you didn't see anything (and you never will if you're not an employee), doesn't mean all is well!

I'm not saying that your opinion is right, and I'm not saying that my opinion is right...for opinions are just that, opinions. We're equally entitled to our own opinions. Opinions create controversy b/c of their nature, they're opinions, and therefore, have at least two sides.

Malti - I'm not doubting that your pups survived the flight and weren't permanently, emotionally or physically, scarred...I just strongly disagree with many of your opinions and statements (as you do with mine)!

Apparently, we have strong differing opinions, which is not a problem for me, and that's what healthy debate is all about. However, it's obvious (to me, at least) that such a debate is not going anywhere, and not beneficial. Therefore, I will not respond to this topic anymore, it's not worth it. (I know I said that in another thread discussing this very issue, and I shouldn't have responded in this thread, but it turned out that the same situation, the discussion not leading anywhere, happened in this thread).

Thanks for letting me state my opinion, and no, I hold no hard feelings toward you!

All the best to you! :D

Sorry to take so long to tell you about Jasper's ride on the plane. I just got off of work. Well I was overly anxious  I couldn't wait. I got to the airline and I told the front desk I was there to get my baby and she gave me a weird look and well I told her my puppy. So the plane had not landed yet but she called the pilot and told him to make sure that Jasper got off first and the pilot told her sure he will get off when I get off because we have him in the cockpit. I don't know how they managed that but they said he was too cute to leave all alone and they kept him at the top with them. And when they landed the captain brought him out to me and I cried  I know I know too much drama but I was so happy to finally see him I couldn't hold it in anymore. And we took him out and the captain wanted a picture of him holding Jasper. And he gave me his address to send him a picture. But let me tell you "puttin" you are getting the best service ever. Jasper came in a very large foldable crate with LOTS of TOYS and food, bed bowls, etc. Just everything you can think of. I was in AAWWW!!! She is so wonderful  I just want you to know you have nothing to worry about. I did for a moment but in the end you have this wonderful baby in your hands. And looking at your pictures remind me of Jasper when he was smaller. They look alot alike  Jeez probally has nothing to do with the fact they have the same fathers! :D Have a great day.

Wow Luanne, That is awesome. I bet you were in total ease knowing how well he was treated. Thats what I like to hear. So that makes three dogs from Malti that I have heard of shipped by Malti that all sound good. Thanks for telling me your story.

Oh my, Lilly is just the most darling puppy. She looks a lot like my maltipoo, Honey. Honey is an apricot color except for white around her muzzle. I would put a picture here but can't figure out how to do that.

Aw she reminds me of our late Toy Poodle Ralph (RIP) who died of old age three years ago at the ripe old at of 15. He was such a cute puppy and such a wonderful dog. It seemed like a sign when Topher our toy poodle now came to us that cold winter night on the road close to home. i just love Poodles.

Ralph had a Stroke when he was 15 he has been known for his seizers in his old age and he woke up with one one night and stopped breathing. We took him to they vet and they said it seemed he suffered a massive stroke and said there wasent much they could do for poor Ralph. He was 15 and was already halph blind he wasent doing well during those last few weeks and so we we decided to let him go peacefuly and had him put down  . It was the worst day of my life but like they said he was a nice old age for a poodle. But I still miss him to this day and even though i have Topher now there will never be anouther Ralph.
