my poor pumba (guinea pig) passed away this moning... it started last night he was in his cage in the yard (he goes out in it everyday during the day and comes in at night) anyways when i got home around 6pm and went to go check on him he was just laying in his cage normally hes in his tunnel and comes running when he hears us... but he didnt respond so i picked him up and he was limp and his lips were blue... but was still talking and moving his legs a lil bit and breathing.... i gave him some water (made him drink it) and tried to get him to eat and he wouldnt soooo i held him 4 4ever and he got his color back and started acting better walking a lil etc... i called the vets 911 cets everyone and no one would see him the 911 vets around heer only treat cats and dogs... the normal vets told me to wait till monday...well i put him in his cage checking on him every 5 min and around 12 he was limp again this time worse... wouldnt move at all he was talking normal and had his color just was limp i called the emergency vets again and begged them to see him still they refused.... sooo i just held him he became a lil better around 4 am moving around again so i oput him in his cage and had my nephew watch over him while i took a nap.... when i got up he was just laying in his cage not talking noting i thought he was dead but i picked him up and he was moving like crazy like he was having a sezierue and screaming but kept falling to his left side soooo i got in the car and took him to an animal clinic that i knew wasnt open but i knew the doc was there b/c i used to work 4 him and knew he was in doing paper work.... sooo i took pumba in and put him on the table and the min the doc came in the room he quit breathing.... the doc dosent know what could of happen to him other then he pointed out that he had whitish stuff around his butt but also had poop stuck to him belly and he had been going on the way to the clinic sooo but we cant figure out what the white stuff was and it stunk back.... the only thing the doc can even possibly think of is he was poisioned but then again he said is weird cause he lasted soo long... but i dont know how he culd of been b/c he was where no one can get to him.... i dunno has anyone had anything similar to this happen???? its just bigging me what happened.....

I'm so sorry for you loss. I don't have any ideas on what could have caused this. It really sucks when ER vets don't take certain types of animals....they would'nt take my cockateil either when she broke her wing in the middle of the night so she had to suffer for over 24 hrs until the regular vet could take her.

Oh No! I'm so sorry, FMgurl. That is so sad. I had guinea pigs when I was a kid. They were so wonderful. I know how much you loved your Pumba. Your kitties are going to miss him too.

I am SOOOOOOO sorry for your loss.
I might have been his age. My guinea pig died close to his 6th birthday, and the average one lives to be about 5 years old.
Again, I'm so sorry  :(
