Ok so I've got my male betta building a bubble nest in his 1 gallon fish bowel, he has breeding grass at the bottom and two floating plants, I have a female right next to him in a one half gallon bowl, I have been feeding her three times a day (Freeze-dried bloodworms, tetra floating tropical medly flakes, and color enhanceing pellets) She shows signs of being ready, (following him as much as she can, and is plumped,) is there anything else I need??? thanks
    :)

Oops I think I hit the wrong button. I do have a betta. I used to have alot of them but just dont have the time anymore. I know this is off topic but I love them, I was only able to breed once and it was a fun experiance. I wouldent do it again though, I was such a worry wart I spent most the day just looking at them. Plus my female got injured pretty bad in breeding.

HOw come everyone else seems to have such luck? I tried for MONTHS, and had no luck! I went to all these websites, books, talked to people who had done it, and they had had no problem with it! Mine just wouldn't do it! Grr...I finally gave up, since most of them died from a fungus or because they carried their eggs for too long.

:D We have two bettas, and they seem to live forever! :)

I think that the betta is the best starter fish there is. For some reason people believe that the goldfish is the best for beginners.

    Thanks for the replys

My male betta has just started makeing a bubble nest, but is it really true that if the females carry there eggs to long they die?!? :| maybe I should try with the other betta, the one who seems to be makeing a bubble nest even though there is no female.

I don't know if that is true or not, I just heard that somewhere, and it did make sense because so many of the pregnat females I had just up and died!

My betta won't build a bubble nest

One time I look in there its a pretty small one but bigger then the last, the next it is made of like 4 bubbles whats up with that? and where do I find these hurricane globes, or those chimney things to put the female in???

I didn't do the chimney thing, I jsut stuck another fish bowl inside of there, since I had extras. Maybe I just didn't leave them in there long enough, who knows. They always almost got killed, so...I would often find them with the female biting hte male. I lost 1 male to that, because he got an infection even though I treated him for it...I had 2 females that died because they jumped out of there bowls. I stepped on one, she had just jumped out, and I couldn't find her, then I realized she was under my shoe....she was the same color as the carpet.

I have also heard this. I do know normally the male squezes the eggs out of the female but not sure if she can do it by herself. If she can't that would probably do her in.
