My cat has a sore just below his ear for a very long time. He scratches at it all the time and makes it bleed. I thought that he might have an allergie to something, but whatever i've tried hasn't worked. Is there anything that i can do to make the sore better or make my cat stop scratching at it.

:m23: and welcome! Have you been to the vet yet? How long is a long time and what exactly have you tried so far?

Could it be fleas or mites:

It could be lots of things from fungal, bacterial, viral to parasite infestation. Your vet can do cultures, etc. to determine the problem. How old is your kitty and does he go outside? What's his name and do you have pics to share?

We took him to the vet about 2 months ago. She gave him a cortizone shot to stop the itching, but it didn't work. We've tried anti-itch spray, fungus stoppers, neither worked. His name is Oreo and hes a little over a year old, closer to 1 1/2.

Maybe you can get a second opinion from a different vet. Could it be a food or household allergy? I'm sorry Oreo is suffering. Would those pet collars be useful until the skin heals up?

Try putting a little Neosporin on it twice a day. It doesn't seem like it's in an area that he could lick it off. I had something similar (it was like ringworm or eczema-type rash) on my cat and the vet recommended doing that. I guess it really stopped the itching and without the scratching gave it time to heal.
