I just read Kitty-Mommy's post, and I'm shocked!
300 DOLLARS for dental cleanings Vene? Just to get the vet to clean the teeth??
When I took Kyrre to the vet three days ago, I payed about 82$!
That included the consultation, one shot, a can of food and a dental care set (so i can brush his teeth at home).
When I go back to get him neutered and to give him his second shot it will cost about 150$.

What would something like that cost in the US?

I took Molly to the vet last week because of that eye problem.

It was $45 for general exam...around $35 to dye the eye to see if it was a scratch in the cornea or anything like that .. and then another $35 for the eye drops.

So my bill was over $100. And I'm taking Aoisha to the vet on Mon for his annual exam. It's supposed to only be the $45 but who knows?

Speaking of such high vet prices...I've been looking around for pet insurance that covers these annual trips to the vet as well as accident protection with a low premium. Everything I've found so far, I'd pay $40 for the annual visit and the insurance would pay the rest ($5) so I just don't see how it's worth it.

Vet trips are expensive, but my cats are worth it. So I've been feeding hubby soup and salads for a while now.

At my vets old office dental cleanings were $150 not including extractions. I'm not sure what the prices are at her new office but I know they will be more expensive because everything else is. When I took Richie on Wed. to have his stitches removed (this part was free), get his last distemper shot and have his eyes checked for ulcers it cost $59.

When I took Booger in, she had about 5 shots, including rabies. She had a full physical exam and lukemia test and claws trimmed. Total cost was $109. And when I brought her back for a booster (one shot), the cost was $20. I really like my vet, they're really thorough, friendly and priced reasonable and have no problem at all with walk-in visits. But I always phone before 'dropping in' just to make sure they're not too busy. And the best part is that the office is only about two blocks away from home so Booger doesn't have to be in her carrier too long.

I got a quote for Tigger to get his teeth cleaned. Since he's a senior they insist on kidney and liver function bloodwork and the quote was for $395, which didn't include any extractions he might need.
Whiskey's visit last month included a check up, felv/fiv combi test, one cestex tablet and his booster, $160. The felv/fiv combi test itself was $70! She lanced and drained his abscess for nothing, tho.
Knowing he's healthy was worth every penny.

ive spent at least a couple thousand alone on max. his vet, dr grant is wonderful. :kiss_heart: he never charges when i take him in for a check....or for his fecals...because it is part of an ongoing problem. i think my vet feels somewhat responsible because he cant seem to clear up the diarrhea.

but ive had 600.00 days, 400.00 days for ultrasounds, xrays...not to mention medication. at one point his antibiotic was 35.00 a week for several months...plus his b-12 is 27.00 weekly. his meds now are cheap. and he gets a b-12 every two to three weeks. my vet quartered the pills for me...and i got them through him, instead of special formulations through the apothacary. and then the standard shots, worming, stuff like that.

i have all my receipts in one place. ive just been scared to see the actual cost!!!

I'm really shocked!! I had no idea vets in the US were so expensive! I'm in the UK and am beginning to think my local vet is very good value. Over the last couple of weeks I've had to take Pudcat in because he has colitis, the original exam cost £16, the injections (he had two anti-inflammatories) were £4 follow up exams were £9. When I got them spayed it I think it cost about £45.

However, I do think it depends on where you live in the UK. I live in a rural area where the standard of living is low, so I guess vet prices are low to match.
