Hi guys i am new to this form, just wondering my dog just had pups about 7 weeks ago and i was wondering how long before she goes in heat again,i am getting my male fixed and i was wondering how long i had before she goes in heat,my dogs are part boxer part lab,1 year old and she is 2 years old.

It varies depending on the dog I have known female dogs that went into heat a month or two after they had stopped nursing. My advise would be to get her spayed right away if you want to avoid the worries of her heat cycle.

"Normal" (emphasis on the quotes) is around 6 months, but Gina is right - you should get one of them fixed ASAP (preferably the female so no other male gets to her) and the other one ASAP after that. Dogs are just like humans in the fact that not all of them have "normal" cycles. Not trying to be rude, but why didn't you get her spayed before she got pregnant?

Correct me if Im wrong but isn't the female a mixed breed dog as well? If so why do you want to breed her again? Regardless if she breeds with a pure bred Boxer or not her puppys will still be mixed.

Hi its advisable to wait 12weeks after the dam gives birth before having her spayed.

I dont see the point in breeding your boxer X Lab to a pure bred boxer what are you hoping to achieve what makes you so sure your going to get a tan from these 2.

Sounds to me like your not thinking of your dog but yourself and what you can make out of it.

Sorry but i dont think you should be doing this just because your wanting to keep a puppy from the next litter whats to say you wont put her through this agian once she had the litter and no tan pups, And again and again until you get the pup you want.

With each litter the risk of uterine and ovarian, Mammary cancers heightens the risk of your dog dying during birth is high also but if your willing to take the risk then my advise would be and i know i am going to offend then dont come here asking for advice
as really you dont want to know how long you have before she comes back in heat so you can have you male neutered you want to know HOW SOON YOU CAN MATE HER AGAIN.

Well the answer to that is if you dont know how long after a bitch whelps does she come back into heat or if you know nothing about the heat cycle and reproductive system then you have no rights breeding her or any other dog at all

What are you going to do with the rest of the two litters? That is a lot of puppies to take care of if nobody wants them... isn't it?
You should really get her fixed. You can go to a shelter and adopt a puppy!
Besides, its not certain that you will get the color you want. Thats no reason to breed a dog. For just one pup because of color. Just think of what will happen to the other puppies that nobody wants to take care of.

Gina is right. What was your point about breeding to a "full breed tan boxer"? Do you think that just because the male is 'full breed' that his puppies will be tan because he is tan?

NOBODY IS "jumping down peoples neck". It would be different if you were a responsible breeder, breeding for the right reasons.
What would you do with all those mixed puppies?

Quite frankly, I have to say. You should be ashamed of yourself! How could you breed mixed breed puppies when there are so many in shelters all over the world. Do you have any idea how many dogs are destroyed every day because no one wants them? Go to a shelter and adort a tan dog if that is what you want. What is going to happen to all her other puppies? What are you going to do if you don't get a tan one? Do you even care about the other puppies or your dog for that matter? Do the responsible thing and have your dog spayed strait away. Please don't bring more puppies into the world there are enough suffering already.

How about you should be ashamed of yourself for being so rude!! First of all I want to explain that my reasons for breeding my dog were not only to hope and get a tan puppy, do you guys understand that the actual delivery of the pupies is first of all very intense and involves precious care and concern. Also raising, nurturing and caring for the puppies aswell involves alot of time, effort and love. Seriously, it was just a hope. As for the point in which you made about all the unwanted mix breeds out there I just thought that I would let you know that one of my dogs came from the SPCA, because I wanted to provide an opportunity for atleast one of all those dogs in the shelters. As for the fact of my dogs pups not having homes, thats incorrect for you to state. The four puppies that my dog just had are gone and the phone is still ringing people are still calling wanting to own them. You can not judge people from one statement, you do not know anything about me or how much I care for my dogs. Thank You

so I don't understand what is the problem? Keep your male dog away and let the other boxer male hang out with your female and hope that she gets pregnant. Hurry up and get it out of the way, I am a believer in get it all done and out of the way, 6 puppies mess is much worse than 12, and these puppies from the first litter pretty much all have homes. Let your female get pregnant again soon, before she is too old. I know what it is like to really want a certain type puppy you have to keep at it until your dog gets it right, I mean she has it somewhere in here genes, right?
PS Your dogs should have been desexed to begin with, if you want a tan puppy go to a reputable tan boxer breeder and buy one? And that other stuff I said I was being sarcastic, sorry!

OK i breed dogs and i mean full pedigree dogs German shepherds to be exact so i know exactly what is expected and what can and usually does go wrong.

I still do not understand why your wanting to have your cross breed mated to a full breed are you expecting to get full breed puppies as i am sorry this is not going to happen.

What i do understand is because your telephone is ringing constantly from people wanting a puppy your willing to breed her again so this will make these people and your pocket happy again not going to happen as if the correct care is taken with mum and her litter then you should find yourself out of pocket.

Basically what you are is a backyard breeder and i for one dont like them.

You dont breed just for the fun of it , You breed to better the breed,
What you going to do if she gives birth to a litter of dead puppies.
Can you cull 1 or more puppies if they are born with cleft palette,Water on the brain, Limbs,Eyes,Missing?
Can you hand feed all the puppies if god forbid the mother dies as it can happen?
Do you know the risks of back to back breeding?
Do you know how to tell if there is something wrong with mother or litter?
Can you tell if the bitch has an infection?
Could you tell if she had Eclampsia or Pyometra?
Do you know how long to wait before calling the vet if something is wrong during the whelping?
Do you know how to intervine if a puppy is stuck?
Do you know the correct procedure if a puppy is not breathing after the mother has cleaned it?
Can you identify a puppy with water on the brain?
Can you identify a bitch that is having difficulties during her pregnancy?
Do you know the gestation period of the dog off the top of your head without looking it up?
Do you know the length of a bitches heat cycle?
Do you care about your dog...... Answer to that NO because you would not put her through this again for the sake of getting a tan puppy and for lining your pockets.

Sorry if i sound abrupt but when you have seen so many bitchs in the vets needing emergancy ceasarians and not surviving or the litter does not survive or even both like i have then you would understand why people like you should not breed.

Do you know the risks of cancers in unaltered bitches rises with each season they have......

OK, I am still waiting for the GOOD reasons as to why you want to breed your dog?
So what if you have people wanting puppies? Who doesn't want a cute little puppy? Puppies are easy to give away or sale it's when those cute little puppies turn into an adult dog and then suddenly they aren't as much fun and they either end up in a kennel or on a chain in the backyard for the rest of their lives OR the most common scenario they get dumped at a shelter where they are handed a death sentence. Why? Because a BYB thought it would be cool to have a tan puppy...Take a look at your local shelter or rescues heck do a search online and look at all the puppies/dogs already born that need homes. IM sorry if you feel I am attacking you but this whole scenario just makes my blood boil. Do the responsible thing have your female spayed and adopt a tan puppy if you want one so bad.

Who did you adopt them out to? People who answered an ad in the paper? Did you check them out? Make sure they have the financial and emotional means and knowledge to care for pups? Dis you use a puppy contract that states they must call you and return the pup to you if for some reason they can't keep it - this could be 5 years down the road, so are you prepared to take a dog back at that time?

The people here are reacting like they are because most of them rescue. Anyone who breeds should also be actively involved in rescue to give back to the community. After heartbreaking, backbreaking work and seeing the misery caused by people to these innocent animals, you might think twice about bringing more mixed breeds into the world where there are already too many.

Go to petfinder.com and enter "Boxer" and "baby" and your province and you should find some nice pups you can adopt.
