Anyone remember how we got a bunny in our basement a while back? We have no idea how he got in, but we bought a live trap and caught him in like 10 minutes and let him go in the park.

So, last night I walk into the basement to put in a load of laundry and something large darted behind the washer! I'm sure it was a bunny. I asked my husband where the trap is, and he said, "I returned it."

    "What?"

"I returned it. It was $30 and I figured we'd never need it again, so I returned it."

Right. So now I am thinking something along the lines of, "Well, if one got in, don't you think more could get in? And $30? So what? The next time we want to go out to eat we will stay home instead and there's your $30." But I didn't say it. I was a good girl. O:)

This morning he dropped our daughter off at school and then went to the hardware store and bought a trap. He got home with it before I had left for work. Then he says, "I think I got the bigger one last time."

I look at him, and he is holding a box with a small trap that has photos of a squirrel, a chipmunk, and a rat on the outside.

"Ummm. Yes, dear. You got the one for bunnies last time."

He got all grumpy. I offered to take it back and get the bigger one. He refused my help. So I left for work.

I did go home for lunch, and there was the tiny trap box still sitting there.

    "Catch the rabbit yet?"

    "No."

"I don't think he can fit in there. It will hit him in the a$$ when it tries to close."

    <evil glare>

Fine. Whatever. I will pick up a bunny trap on my way home from work. ](*,)

So anyway, he goes on to say that I would have killed the lady at the store who sold him the trap. She told him that we could always call the city and they would come out and trap it and "take care of it" if we didn't want to kill it. Of course, I am wondering why we would bother with a live trap if we were planning on killing it, but whatever...

So, he tells her we will just release it in the park. And then SHE says, "That's what we always did with our ducks."

Now here's the part where had I been there, my husband would have started backing away and looking for somewhere to hide.

"Ducks?" he says. "You had a duck problem?" (Don't forget, we live in a suburb - no farms near here.)

"Yes," says she. "We used to get baby ducks for the kids every year for Easter. When they got too big, we'd take them to the park and let them go."

He just nodded and smiled and got out of there. I would have punched her in the face and asked her why she thought it was a good idea to teach her kids that pets are disposable items that can be toyed with and then thrown away when they are done. :x

    MORON!!

Lol sorry but that made me laugh just the whole thing that he got to small of a cage for the bunny or bunnies and that the Lady was dumb enough to buy her kids duck to dump them off in the park when they got to big I mean come on.

We had a squirrel problem when i was younger when we were just starting the whole rescue ranch thing and just moved in here. All these Squirrels took over our hosue and me being 3 or 4 I was afraid of them of course. They lived in our attic and dining room, and "library" ( before it wa turned into an animal room lol) there were so many it was crazy. It took my dad 2 or 3 good months of trapping before all the squirrels were gone. And my dad being the animal lover he was kept and took care of all the mom and babies, or injured ones we found until the babies were big enough to be released and the injured and sick were better. We took our out and released them on the woods ( pre riding trails) patched up the house and havent had a squirrel problem since lol.

Always a fun thing with little animals sneek it huh?

Sadly this is not the first time I've heard of people doing this. :(
My neighbor wanted to get her grandson a baby duck for Easter last year and then release it at the park when it grew up and did'nt see anything wrong in doing so since thats what her father used to do when she was a kid. Thankfully, her daughter was able to talk her out of it.
What are these people thinking anyway!?!?

lol true i'm only 14 but i'm learning alot about men. the guys in my class couldn't believe i wouldn't let them PAINT SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAILER to use for the homecoming float. and were absolutly horrified that they had to walk the 20 feet into the school to get paper to cover the trailer. oh lord, what next? well they attempted to pop the trailer's tires, managed to break 2 staplers (which i finally got unbroke with wire and a screwdriver), popped all the yellow and purple (our school colors) balloons, and when the girls were trying to spray paint the red and orange balloons yellow and purple they would pop them in our faces. then when our backs were turned they would try to spray paint the 1st graders through the fence. lol, and that's terrible about those ducks!

My poor daughter has already been brainwashed about boys/men. She's only 10. I can say things to her like, "Well, you know how all boys are stupid?" and she says, "Uh huh!"

    I probably shouldn't do that.

lol to quote my mom, "teach them at a young age, then they'll know and won't fall over at the stupidity when they're older!"

LMAO. Apparently we are now just feeding the bunny. The crafty little devil took 3 pieces of carrot right out of the trap without setting it off. I bet the mechanism on the other trap (the one my husband returned) was more sensitive or something. We caught that guy in like 10 minutes. Silly wabbit!

I reset it last night with grated carrot, feeling bad that if he was caught he would sit in there all night. Sure enough, he was in there this morning when I got up, sitting in that catatonic state terrified prey animals assume. I let him go in the park, feeling guilty about taking him away from his family in our backyard.

Oh man, do i have a typical man story.
We were driving down the road and my dad kept picking his nose, so i awsk him to stop picking his nose and use a kleenex. he does so and my mom says that we are awfully hard on him and we need to give him a break. we look over at my dad who now has the kleenex stuffed up his nose and is driving like that. oh my

    Jamiya,

Did you find out by chance how the bunny got into the house? Was it cold outside? If the bunny came into the house through the yard, why not put a paper box with a cut opening (put some food in there) in the yard and see if the bunny stays in the box. I assume that you'd rather him/her stay in the yard than inside. Bunnies like dark places. My bunny used to stay in the box all day long, don't get me wrong, he liked it.
