I'm waching 'queer eye for the straight guy' right now, and for a moment i was shocked! The straight guy on this episode has a cat, and they talked about how declawing is a good idea to protect your funiture

But they also mentioned some rubber stuff to put on the claws, and iwas wondering if anyone knows anything about this?
I'm not constering any of these for kyrre, don't worry! But is it really true that these rubber things don't bother the cat?

I think I've heard of a product called 'soft paws' which look just like what Kathy posted. I've seen them in pet stores. I guess they're offered as a safe alternitive to declawing.

I think it would drive my cats nuts. I don't know if cats mind getting those little caps put on their claws or not. I guess they get used to it. But, I just wind up taking the shredded furniture.

I've seen those at the petstore. They come in all sorts of pretty colors. They are glued onto the kitties claws and are supposed to last about 6-8 weeks. I'm afraid of trying them though because I'm afraid that when the glue weakens, my kitty will ingest the claw cap.

At my vet back in USA they cats there had something like that. All I know is that they would come off occasionally and the vet would put new ones on. The vet sort of described them as a protective covering. The cats always had crazy colors on!

Those nail caps are such a wonderful invention. I've heard of some people using them and really liking them while others don't care for them at all. I may try them some day just to see how well they work and how long they last. Although, my dog is the one that ruined the couch....maybe I should get them for her instead. LOL.

I forgot to mention that they come in different sizes. They probably have them for dog claws as well.

i was looking into getting some caps for 2 of my three. fortunately they don't attack the furniture too much but i didn't want to watch another cat go through a declaw. i think it's a great idea. the vets say that the caps are thin enough that the cats grow used to them. but unfortunately i haven't found any in the stores in my area.

declawing is obviously not a subject that gets any support around here, rightfully, it hurts the kitty and takes away her/his only source of self defense in this worls.

I havent heard of mitten, I did here of some sticky thing to put on the furniture that would annoy the kitty to not scratch, at least thats what I thought it was...but maybe it was something for the cats paws.

The sticky for the furniture doesnt make much sense sine it wasnt big enough for the whole piece and the kitty can just go around the strip...?? hmm...I am not sure

    Ashimmerystar - Sticky paws?
When my cats were scratching at my couch they were only doing it to certain areas...mainly the corners. I put double sided sticky tape there and it stopped them from scratching it.

Hmm...my cat is sneaky, he scratches my matress and there is so much room for him to scratch so I would have to put the sticky stuff every where...but he is spoiled...I was never much of a disciplinarian when it came to his scratching furniture.

SHAME on the QUEER EYE guys, I love that show, but hearing that they said that declawing was safe for your furniture...SHAME SHAME....glad they mentioned the tips though

I bought the tips for Hunter, but never used them. Instead I just clip his nails every two weeks and I keep my leather chairs covered unless we have company over or I get tired of looking at the covers and what to see my nice furniture! LOL

I don't think it hurts the kitties to ingest them, just comes out in their poo, like gum or any other plastic thing does!
One thing that I read you have to be careful about with them is that they can grow into your kitties paw or claw if you aren't careful, meaning you have to keep up with them and replace them regularly.

I wanted to add this (from another cat board) to this post as I felt it was fitting.
