i never gave my cats food or water.. well food after 9pm and no water after 12am the day b4 they were go have "it" done... and if i did give them a lil water after 12am i would make sure that they went potty b4 they went the next day...some ppl do give water not much but...i just never did b/c i didnt want to take the chance of them throwing it up while they were under and choking on it... sounds scary i know but it does happen.. dosent happen much but it does... and its better to be safe then sorry... i would go w/ whatever the vet told u...

I hope it all goes ok! My kitten is getting fixed next weekend.

(It's too late now... but...) I htink it must depend on the vet on the water thing. I have to pick my food up at 10 pm and the water can stay down all night.

    Tell us how it goes.

I'm curious (since I'm getting my cat fixed next week), are they going to restrict any of your cat's activitiy when he comes home? Like will he be able to go up and down stairs right away?

When my boys were neutered there was no restricted activity. Just don't let them lick the stitches...

well i dropped them off at 8am yesterday morning..and by 3 they were ready to come home..got all their shots..and neutering done...guess they use a new proceedure bc there were no stiches...the incision is left open..and everything is just tied off..they seem to be fine..they couldnt wait to get out of their carriers...the vet said no food for the first day...but they could have water...and i waas to restrict them from climbing anything such as stairs..or letting them jump..hehe..lot of good that did..they are jumping all over..and playing like they had nothing done..but they seem to be in good spirits..gave them food today and boy were they thrilled...vet had also given them some pain meds..so they werent feeling a thing..i am just trying to keep them from jumping as much..they are still a little uncoordinated..hehe

I was told no food after midnight but to take the water away an hour before the surgery.
Glad your babies came through it okay!! I've never had stitches on a boy, they just (to quote the vet) "push 'em back together". Then when she says not to let them jump I have to laugh - ever try to keep a young male from JUMPING???
