Cat Peeing Problems!! Help!

I have a female (desexed) cat about 4-5 years old.

    She is a tortoise shell

She has always been an inside cat ever since we have had her so she has a permanent litter box inside the house which she always uses

She does go outside but only usually once a week and only for about 1 hour or 2 and then she comes back in

Of late, she has started peeing in the house, it started out in the bathroom shower but we locked the door so now she does it behind the front door.

We have tried to tell her it is wrong but she still persists.. We have not changed the kitty litter brand or her food or anything like that she just started doing it all of a sudden for no reason.

We thought it might be because sometimes her kitty litter gets a bit dirty and she might not want to do her business but she even does it when the kitty litter has just been replaced

Help!! we dont know why she continues to do this, she has always been a good cat she has always been timid.

One thing is we just washed the floor last night and she went and did it straight away, do you think this could be a territory thing and she is marking it?? Since when the floor was washed the smell was taken away?

Also once or twice she has pooed in the house as well.

    Help!!!

before doing anything else a vet check should be done to rule out any health issues going on - could be something like a urinary tract infection which is often painful if left untreated. Sometimes if a UTI is left untreated the cat can start to associate the litterbox with the discomfort of peeing and then starts to eliminate in other places.

If it is a UTI an antibiotic would be prescribed. But this really should be checked out before doing anything else.

Yep, what Mary said. Cats suddenly not using their box after years of faithful use is often a sign of UTI. It shouldn't be anything serious if caught early. Please let us know what your vet says.

Yeah I would take her to the vet because she could have a problem with making it to the litter box... but thats almost like you need a cat psychologist to see if maybe she is acting out for some reason.

    Good luck!

please let us know how it goes...my previous foster came with a UTI and that poor girl was in so much pain - you could see it in her eyes (she probably had it for a long time since her owner was elderly and had to go into assisted living facility).

    welcome dmudgeau... =P~

any other behavior?? like throwing up??

any changes in the house? new furniture? new people? new animals??

some cats are very sensitive to change. i would probably go with the uti issue first, as the biggest possibility. and i would definitely keep her litter box clean. what kind of litter? my cats have three kinds of litter. and three boxes. yesterdays news...which christopher my foster cat will use when he is in the back bedroom.

one pan has clumping mixed with a little clay, and the other pan has only clay...(regular litter). mikey will go in the clay....but most always...the three of them like the clumping.

maybe changing the litter would help too. i would definitely get her examined for uti...maybe blood tests too...just to rule out kidney problems....even cats as young as 5 can get kidney disease.

    keep us updated
