I have two 13 week old kittens that I would have considered semi-feral when we brought them home. They are brother and sister. So far the male has been the one to warm up to us more. But today Jynx, the female, has decided she wants to act like her big brother. She has been very social, and friendly....even loving on us! But Cinder, the male, has been very quiet today. He has slept most of the day, and only come out to go potty. I dont know if I have "seen" him eat. That does not mean that he hasnt eaten (I have not been home all day long).

My question is....Do cats have days when they are less active, or moodier? In general Cinder has a somewhat outgoing personality, and will follow me around the house when I am doing chores. He is usually the first one to come out from the bedroom into the front parts of the house. He has been very distant tonight though. He doesnt look to be ill, and I cannot physically see any difference in him. But tonight when my hubby and I were trying to play with them, he just wanted to sit and watch his sister play. Usually it is her that just sits.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, or experiences you all may have. I have only been around cats long ago when I was very young. These are the first cats that I have ever really had much experience with.

Thank you in advance for your posts!!

I guess so. Cats, like people can have moody days or just want to chill or do something out of the norm. Their personalities may change as well as they get older. Milo and Venus were 8 weeks old when we got them. Milo was the aggressive one and used Venus as a punching bag whenever he woke up. He seemed aloof when he was little and did his own thing. Venus, on the other hand was a snuggler and followed us everywhere. As they got older, the roles changed. Milo became a lover, and Venus became more assertive as well as being a wild huntress. She was always loving, but in her own terms. It'll be fun and interesting to watch Cinder and Jynx develop into their own personalities.

Thanks for the reply Vene. I am very much the "first time mother" when it comes to these kittens. I dont want to run to the vet for every little thing, but I do want to make sure I am aware of any changes they may be going through. He doesnt sound like he is stuffy, or may have a cold. And I did see him eat this morning. Maybe he has an upset tummy or something. He is still alert, and has been moving around the house....Im just nervous I suppose. We lost a very sweet pup when she was 6 mo. old, and there really werent any warning signs that she was sick, unitl it was too late. And now that I think back, the day before she had to go to the vet...she was moping around a little, and sleeping more, like she just wasnt up to par that day. So I guess I get a little nervous now when any animal starts to behave in a different manner!

And its funny since he has been so laid back, Jynx has had to come to us to play. I dont know whats going on, it seems like they have "swapped" personalities!!!

    Thanks again!!

Thanks for the link Vene. I understand that everyone is probably leary to offer advice since they cannot be held responsible, etc. I think that I may take him to the vet in the morning. I appreciate your opinions, and I realize that there is not substiute for the vet, but I was just curious for similar situations, and what the outcome was, and if this is somewhat typical behaviour of a cat. The link was very informative though, and Im going to make an appointment in the morning.
