First I have to say, I love guinea pigs.
They are wonderful pets, and anyone who thinks they're dirty stinky rats is wrong!!! Okay, heres their site, [edit: click the "www" icon for site address] if you have any pics of your pigs or pig, please submit one and some things about them, as now, I only have 2.

Hehe, funny you said that. I brush Hairy's hair, oh... I'll say about 3-6 times a day!!! Dawson not so much, I just cut his hair and it only needs grooming every couple of days. I use ferret shampoo, and if you bath your guinea pig every month or so their coat becomes very shiny.

I like guinea pigs too, but whoever said that rats are stinky or dirty?!? Rats are equally as awesome pets as guinea pigs, and even more fun in my opinion. They are not at all stinky or dirty and even less so than a guinea pig as long as their cages are kept clean. They are actually a pretty clean little rodent. I have 3 of them you can see on my website...they are the sweetest, not the stinkiest! Everyone loves their pets, but be nice to everyone else's when you talk about your own. Not trying to be harsh, but Elliott happened to be sitting on my shoulder watching when I was reading your post and he wasn't too pleased [-X

I agree that guinea pigs are wonderful - and so are rats. I've had both. Unforunately I developed an asthma allergy to rats, and can't have them anymore. They are clean, very, very intelligent, and they certainly love people. They aren't as timid as guinea pigs either. I have two guinea pigs now, and they are the love of my life. They wouldn't dream of biting a person if their lives depended on it. My rat was the same way. She was a hooded rat (white with a black head and black stripe down her back). She was just precious. Its been 15 years since she died of old age and I still miss her. She made a real impression on me.

Guinea pigs are sweet little animals. They are only stinky and dirty when not taken care of. I miss my Humphrey and Pudgy terribly. Rats are great too, I have had hooded rats and they are just so much fun.

    Yes, I know.

I have talked to many people who either have owned or do own guinea pigs, and say how "bad" they are.

Its very sad though, because lots will say, "guinea pigs stink!", or other things about them that only occur when they are neglected.

Most of the time I end up fighting with people, because I get ganged up on by a bunch of people who don't even know what they're talking about.

It breaks my heart just to think about how animals owned by that "type" are cared for. Sometimes I wish every animal could live with me, so I would know they were getting proper care.

I don't know too much about rats. My Mom hates their tails and won't let me have one, so I don't have much to say about them.

I have been to people's houses where their house stunk of cat pee and dirty litterbox. I did not blame the cat and say cats are dirty and stinky, I blame the owners for not properly caring for their pet. Same for piggies. They can't clean their own house. Any animal will stink if they are not kept clean. People are just stupid.
You are missing a lot of fun, unfortunately, not being allowed to have a rat. They are very very smart and fun to have. I wonder about people who judge them based on their bare tails. Do they judge people by their looks without getting to know them? It is really the same thing.

The tails scare, and gross out my Mom.

Its pretty much the same as not liking tarantulas. You have to have a specific type of personality to like them.

I'm not to worried about not having a rat, my piggies are all I need. They are the sweetest, cutest little pigs I've ever seen. They're very smart too. Hairy already knows a couple of tricks.

I have a guinea pig too. He's only 5 months old. His name is Jake, and he's a silkie peruvian mix, with some abyssinian. (somewhere...LOL) He's brown with a blue undercoat. Very original I think.
