    Hello guys...
I am a single guy living in a basement suite... SO I am gone to work for 8 hours during the week... but when I am gone I leave the TV on... and then I am home for about 8 hours to talk to my bird but then I sleep the last 8 obviously... is this enough time to keep my budgie happy or should I think about getting another bird since there are no other family members home while I am at work... I would perfer to only have 1 because this is my first bird and id like to start off small as well as i have heard its easier to train one bird but I dont want to be a meany and leave her alone if its not nice... just curious what all of you guys' scheduals are.. thanks

Hi a radio is better than a tv this way they are getting music as most birds are happier with music.
Alsong as your bird has toys in the cage and plenty of fresh food and water he/she will be happy.

Having one bird is easier to hand tame and to teach new things having 2 is a little harder and the pair would rather be with each other than be with the owner.
I am not saying it is not possible to hand tame 2 birds its just a little harder..

At what point do you decide to take the bird out of the cage?? Should I wait until she stands on my finger on her own? Because I am very nervous about not being able to get her back into the cage... will they go back on their own looking for food or do you have to carry them back in?

I'd wait until she's settled in (usually about 2 weeks).

Get her wings clipped. That way you won't have to chase her all over the house trying to catch her while she's flying, it also safer for her in the long run.

so I guess once again I have to take her to the vet to get that done... then how often do you have to get it done after that?? Is it possible to not clip her wings I would rather not...

    I clip their wings myself.

    Here's a site:

If you want to have her out I suggest to do it (atleast in the beginning). It's safer to get them clipped because then you don't run the risk of her flying into windows, mirrors and walls which can be potentially fatal.

I would suggest taking her out in a small room with out many obstructions that way she has to be close to you. With one of my cockatiels i let him out in the bathroom with the door closed and sit on the floor talking to him and he does eventually come to me. After playing with him for a while I can put him back in the cage without a problem, it did take a while thu\ough as he was avairy raised.
