my leopeard gecko

i am getting a lepord gecko and im new in this forum and i this is what i have for her
-1 ten gallon tank
-screen lid
-water dish
-coconut hideout im gettin it a speaceal toy sand and backround is there nething i need to know???

 

The setup sounds good show a pick minus the gecko, cause unfortunately (don't hate me for these pleassssssse but...) I'm not too much of a reptile fan, although, lepord geckos are cool for a lizard, even though I would never keep one!

setup sounds good, but if u have 5 or 10 bucks go out and get him/her a heat rocks, that will be one happy lizard!

 

I have 2 Leopard Gecko's that are @ 6 years old. They have a rock on one side that has a heat lamp on top of the tank shining down for basking. My guys like to climb up on their (fake) cactus trees. Whatever you do, don't use a heating pad under the sand. I made that mistake in the beginning and my tank cracked because it was so hot. (The pad was already attached because my son had anoles in this tank first.) Also, don't forget the flourescent lighting - it is supposed to be good for their skin. I bought a Leopard Gecko book from the pet store and have lived by it ever since. Good luck to you!

Please stay away from heat rocks. I've seen to many lizards, geckos, ETC.... burned really bad by those. If you get just a plain ole rock and use an heating light over the top of the rock it is much better then those pet shop that sell heating rock ( electric kind ).

Here are a couple of pics of my guys and their home. It has worked for me just fine. I have also heard that the heat rocks will burn a reptile, so please avoid it. I have a rock on the far right with a heat bulb sitting on top of the tank shining down on it. Their water is on the left side so that they have an area to drink and cool down. Thank you! These guys are a great pet for my son - his friends think they are very cool and they are always a conversation starter. But the BEST part is - they are really low maintenance!

Just remember Leopard geckos are desert creatures... babies especially need hot conditions... (85-95 degrees during the day 75-80 during the night) to get these types of conditions a 100 watt heat lamp will work during the day with a 60-75 watt heat lamp during the night... remember to use either calcium fortified sand or carpet for your substrait.

in the long run a 10g will be a tad small for a leopard geckos comfort. This is my full grown leopard soory for the pic shes about to shed. Anways shs about give or take an inch about 7 inches. SO given that a 10g is about oh I would say 16 inches or so. Not saying that it is to small it would probably feel cramped. Like you have the ability to live in a closet but you wouldnt be comfortable. Heat rocks are a no go. jsut dont do it get a heat lamp they will love it. Crickets feed them size thats half the size of there head. water readily available. screen top which you have and decorate accordingly to your taste. Just be sure there is no likelihood whatsoever of rocks.decor falling and taking the geckos life. Good Luck and Happy Holidays. Geckos will provides years of beauty and entertainemnt.
