Has he always had dry skin? or was it just from treating him for fleas that he got it?

Actually, a dog's feed can have a lot to do with the condition of their skin as well as their coat. If it is just something from treating him for the fleas, you could put a little safflower oil on his food. Try not to bath him too much, as that can dry out their skin also. I can't think of anything else right now, but I hope you can figure something otu for the poor guy!

I have been having a similar problem for the past month with our Shepard. We believe it to be food related since he had a 3 day diet change since we ran out of his normal food. He's possibly allergic to corn. But anyway, I've been putting about 3 Tbs of olive oil in his dinner at night and giving him Brewer's Yeast tablets everyday and this seems to be working. His fur seems a lot healthier and less dry or brittle and he isn't scratching nearly as much as he was a few weeks ago. Hope that helps!

Try giving fish oil instead of olive oil. Someone else here (sorry I forget who) said to also give Vit E when you give fish oil.

What food are you feeding him? I used to think Science Diet was the best food, but then I learned better.

Hi! Tramp had the same problem when we found him he was almost eating all his fur off and we thought it was dry skin or hot spots. The vet told me he was highly allergic to flea dirt and started him on the Advantage Program once a month. It did miracles for him. Took a about a month for his fur to come back because he was chewing himself bald. But that was a little over 5 years ago and as you can see he is still as hairy as ever...lol
