I have a 55 gallon tank i have been thinking about getting some convicts jewels and fire mouths. i have never had a jewel with a firemouth and i know jewels are very aggressive especially when they are breeding so would it be a good idea to have them with fire mouths?

Actually, all those fish are extremely aggressive when breeding so I'd try to avoid getting a breeding pair. Try to pick out all females if possible.

Assuming none of the other fish are breeding pairs, the firemouths might be okay. I think it's really going to come down to the personality of the individual fish. So you can try it, but be prepared to separate them just in case.

i had my breeding pair of firemoths in an african cichlid tank and they are still alive today. Even if you try to get all female convicts, you are most likely going to get a male or two and then they start breeding. i also kept a jewel with other africans and it is also still alive. In a 55g, you wont be able to get many jewel or convicts....

Actually with fish that get around 6", I wouldn't put any more than 4 in a 55 gallon tank. So if you want all three of those types of fish, you really won't be able to fit much else in that tank.
