Cold House in Winter: Will This Harm Parakeets?

We are thinking of getting two parakeets as pets. We live in the Northeastern United States. In the winter, our house gets cold during the night (we are all bundled under blankets). Will this be harmful to parakeets? :?:

 

HI birds that are used to having warmth may not be able to handle the cold.
Providing that you get them in the warmer months and slowly turn the temp down in the house then they will get used to it, Also on a night you can cover them with a sheet or blanket but leave a gap at the bottom to allow air to circulate this way the cover keeps some warmth in the cage.

You would have to keep a very close eye on them to make sure they dont sit there with there feathers al fluffed up as this is a sign that they are too cold and will need a warm room.

Well i would say buy a cheap little heater. that keeps my room above like 40 degrees fareignhite. And during the summer when its really hot our down stairs stays cool so thats where they are living right now. so my guess is a little heater and make sure it isnt too hot.

 

If buying a heater please make sure it does not contain teflon parts as teflon is highly toxic to birds. But a heater is a great idea
