What do yuo need when getting ready for a new pup?

I mean, If i get Scruffy is there anything special i will need? I have never had a small breed dog....

 

If you have a place to enclose him, say the kitchen or bathroom that has a door that you can close to ensure he will stay put then x-pens won't be needed as badly. Perhaps a baby gate to close off areas he can't go. Chew toys, teething starts about 4 months. Puppy food, money for shots, collar and harness. Sweater if you are in a very cold climate. Nutrical to keep sugar level up, in case you have trouble with him eating.
I had bought a playpen, but really did not need it. She climbed out and it was a pain trying to enclose the top.
Pee pads also.

 

yeah see he is eight months old soo what shoudl i get for that age? Hes is trained for the pee pads as well but what else? I am nervous lol

 

Do you know if he is used to a crate? I guess if he is, the previous owner will give you all of his things crate included. If not, it would be a good idea to get one. Did you say it was a chihahua? After you get him, get the crate, if he's not got one already. Big enough only to stand and turn around. It will be just for sleeping in, not playing. This way when you or your parents can not keep an eye on him, the crate will keep him safe. You will need to liscence him in your name. Here in California, where I am, it is $10 for a spay or neutered dog. $100 if not fixed. You will need to socialize him too. So's he will not become the holy terror of the block. Hoepfully he's had some socialization already. Take him for walks, bring him to the small dog parks. Put him down when you feel he's ready. If he's scared, don't bother putting him down when there are those up in your face dogs. that is very frightening to a dog. If there are other dogs just minding their business, then put him down. Needs to fel safe just being around them and slowly approach them when he's ready. You could sign up for pup classes for teaching obedience too. Or you can try it yourself.

You really should purchase a clipper set. I have a couple that I use. I have two poodles. I always groom them myself. If you don't, then you will need to send him to the groomer about once a month. To keep him looking decent. Sanitary trim around the wizzer and the bum to keep things from attaching themselves to the coat. Groomers charge around $25 per grooming session. Well, If you get him.
