finally able to use Halti

Annie has finally aceppted the Halti to a certain degree..it used to be absolutely useless...she would just throw herself on the ground and try to paw it off...no food or toys could distract her...now she can work pretty well in it as long as i have some treats to remind her to pay attention to me when she remembers she hates it...hehe

yes..poor poor Annie...she gives me those looks all the time in hopes I'll take pity and take it off...she thinks all the other dogs will make fun of her...but if she didn't pull like a draft horse she could wear a flat collar like other dogs..heheh

I always worry people will think it's a muzzle though..i'm suprised how many people think they are..

 

Annie deserves an Academy Award for that look!

 

I have a similer problem with kate when it comes to wearing a muzzel. Im not sure how to help her with it. I would love any suggestions. I won't muzzel her if the bilaw gets tossed but, I will be forced to if it stays. I would like to get her used to it before we start attending obedience classes, because she gets so stressed. I feel that we won't fully benifit from the classes if shes to focused on the muzzle and not on me. So far I've tryed putting it on her and playing and trying to keep her distracted, but with in minutes if not immediatly she starts draging her head on the ground. Or she even gose to the extreams of trying to rip it off with her feet, or on a corner. I feel so bad for her.

 

Yes, boy do I know the dramatics they can throw when something is on their nose...I finally got Annie to wear hers by a lot of bribery..I think the trick was I would start her off with her obediance commands before I put the Halti on..I'd get her responding really well and get her really excited about and focused on the treats....then I'd quietly and quickly slip on the Halti and pretend nothing had happened...I just kept up the excitement about the commands and treats and she didn't have time to think about it...after a while I slowed down the treats and had her walking on a loose leash and only had to call her attention back with treats every couple of minutes...hopefully with work we'll be able to extend this time period...since you can't really effectively treat with a muzzle on...you might want to start her out in a halti so she can at least get used to something around her nose..then maybe move up to the muzzle..
