I was wondering if a 55 gal is big enough for a black ghost knife. Also is it possible to be kept with a couple of butterfly fish?

I think a 55 might be able to handle the bioload of a black ghost knife (barely), but because of the dimensions (ie. it's only 12" wide), I think it's going to be awfully cramped since they can get around 20" long. I also think it would eventually eat butterfly fish.

Oh. Too bad I guess. What fish would you guys recommend? Im looking for a combo of bottom dwellers and surface ones as well. And something that is unusual.

Im not sure but I think pictus cats will do good in a 55gallon for a bottom dweller. You might be able to keep butterfly fish with them. Im not sure fi any of this info is right so dont base your fish purchases on them

Thats ok. I dont plan on purchasing the fish until Ive gotton rid of the current fish and fully cycle the tank. I might stick to a brittlenose for a bottom dweller. Are there any weird fish that would live inbetween and leave the butterfly fish alone? I was thinking of mixed cichlids but cichlids like to pick fights.

Maybe an oscar and a pictus or the bistlenose. Oscars are great fish. Or you could buy M_wm's Dempseys. :D -tl

lol not oscars. Im trying to get rid of my oscars. Theyre too messy and i cant afford a bigger tank. What a ropefish? I don't think they have any around my area.
