Ok well since its pretty cold and snowy right now the horses airn't getting ridden as much as they do when its warm. So I bought I couple large beach balls and threw them in the paddock. I really did'nt expect much since horses airn't really known for their ability toplay fetch  lol. But I was wrong lol. Pheonix was the first to get interested he when up to the big red ball and sniffed it and when it rolled away he snorted and kinda jumped back and then trotting after it and kept on go up to nose it and when it would role away he would jump back and then trot after it. Kurt eventually got into it and tried to play with the red ball too but Pheonix would just nip at him so he went to inspect the blue ball. He does more of a bite it watch it role away bite it again and run after it. Lol they just remind me of dogs. Buckeye is really not feeling the whole "LETS CHASE THE BALLS!!!!" lifestyle (I think she's alittle above chasing a ball lol) and instead comes up to me to be pet and to tell her how pretty she is lol. Does anyone else give their horses "toys" to play with?

That's funny that your horse plays with them.

I have thought aobut getting my pony one of those Jolly Balls (I think that's what they are called, they kind of have a handle) But never thought to just throw one of my kids balls in there and see what he does.

I got Sassy a Jolly Ball when she had to be stalled for her Founder.....she didn't like it one bit. But Moonie the baby LOVES taking things out of your back pockets, or hats off your head and running and playing with them...

I got my TB a jollyball, and he's scared to death of it...but my 2 year old LOVES it. Then one of the barn dogs (the rottie) got hold of it and put a few holes in it, so it's his now. So then I moved the stall apple from my TB's stall to my baby's stall, and he played with that all the time before I sold him.

huh, i should give that a shot. my horse doesn't get exercised alot cause it is to cold so i just have to let him in the round pen to play. maybe if i put a ball in his pen if he would exercise himself? lol i'll give it a try!

We used to take mesh hay sacks and put a basketball, soccer ball or volley ball in them and hang them in the stalls or from a tree in the paddock for the horses to play with. Some ignored them, but most of them would spend some time bouncing the ball around.

My last horse, J'ms, had a favorite toy. His cat! I never realized just how much of a sense of humor horses have until I watched him teasing that cat. He'd wait until she was intently stalking something in the grass, then quietly sneak up behind her, put his nose on the back of her neck and snort. She'd jump straight up and box his nose. He'd squeal and buck and take of running, with her in hot persuit. She'd chase him around for a few minutes, then go back to hunting. Then the whole game started over again. They were the best of friends, but I wish she wouldn't have developed the habit of leaving him treats in his grain bucket. Usually, half of a dead mouse. I know, she was just sharing, but EEEEWWWWWW.

The Appy mare I was looking at had a GIANT beach ball thing to play with...a "horsey" toy particularly and apparently she would Jump on it and roll it around... She Body slammed the thing... LOVED it and all toys given to her... I can just picture her body slamming a GIANT bright Volleyball!!!

i gave my mare a stall ball one winter to try and discourage her from digging, but with in days she figured out how to jump on it with both front feet and pop it, once it was flat she would have nothng to do with it. I tried to repair it but she did the same thing, bought her a new one, same thing. So i gave up and now she has a water jug on a rope that she ignors.
