Question about fighting parakeets

We've had a female parakeet now for 1 year. She was a very happy bird until we got a baby male friend for her. She at first was happy to have a new buddy but now she just hates him. The baby male is so happy all the time and likes to play and wants to kiss but the 1 yr. old female has started to peck at him everytime he comes near. She also has started to grab his tail or his wing and pull! She wants nothing to do with the young male. Is this normal or was this a bad idea? My once happy female has turned into a raving b%@*h and the young male just wants to play and have fun. I can't seperate them because I have no more room and I hate to return either of them. Any help?
    thank you

Sounds to me like the young male is trying his luck with the female.
What i mean by trying his luck he could be trying to breed with her and she is not going to allow this.

She is quite happy for him to share the cage aslong as he does not bother her.
Did you just buy the new bird and put him in the cage with the female?
New birds should always be placed in a cage of there own for 30days this is classed as the quaranteen (sp) period to make sure he has no illnesses.

When introducing a new bird to an old bird it should be done either in the new birds cage or in a new cage i prefer putting theminto a new cage neither bird has occupied.

There is always fights and squabbles when putting to bird together for the first time and providing there is not blood shed its best to let them sort it out between each other.

Just keep a very close eye on them and like i say if you see blood the birds will need to be seperated.

    Thanks for the reply

Yes, we did just put them together right away. Well, I will keep an eye out and if there is any bloodshed, something will have to change. Thank you for your help. :D

    **update about fighting parakeets**

We seperated them for a while and then put them together. It looks like they've become friends. The "time out" helped alot.
