A devastating loss Sunday night

I just found out that a woman I met at the agility trial last weekend was killed on her way home to Chicago Sunday night. She was in an accident in her RV. One of her dogs, a rottie, escaped and is still on the run as far as I know. The other three are at the local humane society.

I am trying to find out where the accident occured and if there is anything we can do to help find the dog that got loose. I am also trying to find out if her dogs have a place to go and if not I want to at least get them in foster homes. Those poor dogs must be totally terrified after being in an accident and now being stuffed in a shelter and not knowing where their mommy is. It is breaking my heart to think of them. I have asked my husband if I can foster at least one of them if it is necessary but I haven't heard back from him yet. I know one is an Am Staff (we talked about her for a while and were trying to guess if my Bonnie has Am Staff in her) and I think one is a Min Pin. I'm not sure what the third one is.

If I find out more info I'll let you know. Maybe we have someone who lives in that area (I still don't know exactly where the accident occured) that can do some legwork if needed.

That is terrible! I hope you (or someone can help them) I wish my aunt in Chicago had email. Good Luck to you.

I have been told the accident happened on highway 24 in southern Illinois, about mile marker 2. I am guessing that is north of St. Louis, maybe around Hannibal? Is anyone familiar with highway 24 in Illinois?

I have offered to foster whoever needs a place to stay, but I don't know anyone "in charge" that I can talk to. I don't even know what humane society they are in.

How terrible!! I hope that all the dogs find a place to go, and that people are searching for the Rottie. I know the dogs are probably terrified. 24 is a bit north of St. Louis...

Actually, I'm in southern Illinois, not Chicago. Highway 24 is about three hours north of my location.

But I can get the word out to area rescues to be on the look out for a lost Rottie. You never know how far a dog that is lost and frightened may travel. Sometimes, they have help, if you know what I mean.

The kennel I work at is very involved in rescue. We foster a lot of dogs that are brought in from some pretty far away locations (we've had several that came from Alabama), so it's possible the dog may show up here if it's found by one of the CARE members, or if someone who finds the dog contacts CARE. We'll definately keep an eye open.

It seems she was heading to Chattanooga on business. The accident happened near Paducah. I have been told that arrangements are being made to go and get all of her dogs today, hopefully even the rottie. I have not heard definitely, though, if that means he has been found. Please do keep an eye open for him, Shine. If you know agility, he is a MACH2 dog. If you don't know agility, MACH is a huge, time-consuming title to get and he has two of them. It would be a real shame for him to end up in some person's backyard as a "guard dog" or something.

The Min Pin will definitely have a home. I offered to foster one or more of the others, but I probably won't be needed. There are a ton of people concerned about the dogs.

I still can't believe she is gone.

I'm REALLY close to Paducah, so there's a good chance if he's still loose, we may see him. I'll definately keep an eye open.

Okay, it sounds like the woman's best friend went to go get the dogs. I think Smooth is still on the loose. I believe she's a female, and my agility instructor said she is very food motivated. Please keep an eye out for her, Shine!

I guess the accident was on the news in Paducah. Did you see anything about that?

Hey guys I live about 10 miles from where the accident happened and Smooth was actually spotted on my neighbors land down the road. My husband and I took a walk through our wooded land today in hopes that Smooth might be hiding out there but we saw no signs of her. We have put food along the tree line hoping that might entice her to visit but no luck yet. Myself and several friends have helped to pass out fliers and pretty much all rescues in the area have been on the look out for Smooth. She has a huge lot of people searching for her.
I am praying that she will be found safe and sound.
Shineillusion here is a copy if the flier which is being circulated if you would to copy it and pass it out in your area that would be great!
