silly question but. what kind of vacuum do you guys use

what kind of vacuum do you guys use? i have a shark roadster and it's just not cutting it anymore picking up the dog hair...sandy sheds an aweful lot..i figured she's a short haired dog it wouldn't be so bad but it seerms to be getting worse now that she's over a year....if i don't vacuum everyday theres tons of it everywhere

 

not silly at all. we have had this discussion on the other dog board before. One problem is your dog is shedding and you still have vacuum or sweepp every day. In amny places, this time of year,dog start to shed their winter coat, so there will be more hair. And to help combat excessive sheeding, try supplements like omega 3 fatty acids and a good diet if you arent doing that already. This has really mad e adifference with my lab shedding ( and keeping him combed)

I now have the built in vac in the walls that work great but before that I had a Phantom Fury, Big infomercial product about 6 years ago. its a bagless upright that has a hepa filter. I bought it being skeptical, they had a money back guarantee and they said to vacuum your house with your old vac and then use the fury OMG :shock: :shock:, the crap, imbededed dog hair and dander, I emptied the cannister 3 times. Could not believe what my old vac didnt pick up. Now there are many brands are the on the market sold in stores that do the same thing, I would look into one of them

she's been on eukanuba low residue since she was a little puppy because she would constantly scratch and poop about 5-6 times a day with purina and store bought brands. no more scratching or mega pooping since she's on this food but the shedding is incredable so maybe she does need suppliments. i've spoken to the vet about the shedding and she just said to wait a bit till she's def out of the puppy coat stage but she was a year in october so i would think her puppy coat shedding is about done by now...i'll def call the vet to ask about the suppliments

 

You can drastically reduce the amount of hair being shed onto the carpet if you get a Zoom Groom and give her a good brushing every day. The Zoom Groom can be used dry or wet, and it just grabs the loose hair and removes a ton of it.

A grooming stone will also work wonders. But I prefer the Zoom Groom.

You can also judiciously use a stripping knife to remove dead, loose coat. But use it sparingly until you learn just how to use one. Otherwise you can create a bald spot in no time at all. They can also scratch the skin if you get too happy with one.

Last but not least, some groomers offer 'shed less' grooming. They use special products to release dead coat, and special tools to remove it. It usually means taking the dog to the groomer on a regular basis though. As hard as we might try, we can't groom the dog so the removed hair doesn't grow back in time.
