Hi everyone. I'm new to the board - thanks for having me.

I'm totally stressing out here. I've been crying for 2 days. I have 2 girl cats - litter mates. they're are both spayed and 3 years old. The other day, one of them got caught in a grocery bag. Scared herself to death. Pooped and pee'd she was so scared. She was fine for about 24 hours after. Then the next night, at 3 in the monring, the two girls got into a huge fight. It's been almost 3 days. They can't even look at eachother without puffing up and hissing, growling.

I brought the one that keeps peeing to the vet. They said that she's just very scared. We try to keep them seperate but they both keep breaking out.

Someone please give me some ideas. I have no idea what to do.

either Bach's Rescue Remedy or a Feliway diffuser. The diffuser releases a hormone that helps cats to relax. Give it some time to work. Or if possible just be sure to keep them separated awhile. And be sure they don't escape - I know hard to do.

Both cats probably got so freaked out at the bag incident they are both probably having a hard time getting over it.

I'd suggest the diffuser for awhile. They cost around $30 and although I've never used one I understand they are very effective

Welcome to the Board. I'm sorry your kitties are having a hard time.
I agree that it may take a little time for your one kitty to get over the fright she had. I'm sure they will be fine after awhile.

My one kitty, Mittens, one time many years got the string of a helium balloon stuck around her paw and she ran through the house with the balloon following behind her making swishing sounds. Freaked her out and we had a hard time catching her to get it of but finally did. To this day she is afraid of balloons and if she hears a sound that sounds like swishing she becomes very alert and I have to reassure her.

You may want to be careful about rustling grocery bags near her as the sound may remind her of the incident.

    Good luck with you kitties.

Hi Mary & sunset5. Thank you both for replying.

We've pretty much had them seperated for 4 days. We've had a few breakouts though. My husband and I are sleeping in different rroms, each with a cat. we feel sooooooo bad. I really hope this ends soon. We're going to try put them together on Friday afternoon. It's scarey though - I'm all covered with scratches already. What do you guys think about this - putting each cat in a seperate carrier, then putting the carriers in the same room like 2 feet apart?

We got the Feliway spray from our vet (can you believe they charged us $40 for a SMALL spray bottle?), and we got a Feliway diffuser. I feel we're doing all we can. However, I think this is a crappy life for a kitty to lead : (

Well let me know what you guys think about the carrier thing.
    Thanks so much.

    PS. Mary, I live in Tewksbury, MA - we're neighbors : )

:m23: and welcome! I'm sorry the kitties are not getting along. You might want to try very slow introductions. Have you tried rubbing them with the same towel so they get used to each other's scent? You can even dab their backs with a drop of vanilla. I'd keep one cat in a room and seal under the door with a towel for a day or so then let them reacquaint themselves under the door. They may play footsie again. After a few more days, I'd place both in the same room for 15 min. at a time to play with string or something to let them see that it's fun time to be with one another. Then I'd gradually increase the play time. I'd also start feeding them together.

    We have major progress!!!

They ate dinner together last night. In the same room! The one that got caught in the bag just came trotting in when she heard the can open. It was WONDERFUL! We played witht hem for about 15 minutes then seperated them again. two hours laterr we played with them together again.

We kept them seperate through the night and when we got upa t 830 this morning, they got together again. It's almost 1:00pm abd they' ve both been free in the house. They are doing so great!

Thank you all for your help. We couldn't have done it without you!
