My friends dog Tate had to be put to sleep
Tate, a Springer Spaniel mix, was brought into the hospital I worked at 7 years ago, another employee, on her lunch break had literally grabbed her in the street and dragged her into her car, it was a busy street in Beverly Hills, the dog was being chased by some teens that were throwing and hitting her with rocks. She brought the dog into the office and tied her 'rope' to the desk, called my friend and I to come and take a look at her, we went into the office but she wasnt there, we followed the rope, she had managed to scramble over some boxes under the desk and was sitting in the furthest corner, trembling with her head down, she wouldnt look at anyone. I talked my friend into taking her home for some much needed TLC, he hadnt had a dog since he was a child, he was now in his 40's, after some persuasion he took her home, she spent 3 days behind some boxes and under a small table against a wall at his apartment, she came out to go for a walk, still not making any eye contact and still with her head low, then we had some progress, she moved from the table against the wall to the larger dining room table. She pretty much stayed there for another week, I could tell she was starting to come round, she started to lift her head when she heard my friends or my voice....my friend Tony, was a little anxious and didnt think he was helping her and I kept telling him to be patient, she would come around, after a week under the dining room table she got brave, walked out, sat in front of Tony and put her paw on his leg, still scared to look at him but from that day it rapidly got better.....Tate and Tony were inseperable, she never had any training butwas one of those dogs that seemed as though she could read his mind....and he could read hers. 2 months ago she had surgery for a tumour on her colon, the results from the biopsy came back negative, we thought she was in the clear, she was eating, drinking, acting her usual happy self but then last week she started showing the same symptoms as before, she was booked in to see a specialist for Thursday, on Tuesday she had a turn around and was acting like an 8 week old puppy but Wednesday she wouldnt stand up, by Thursday, well it was time.
RIP Tate, you had a bad start in life but for the last 7 years you have been one of the most loved dogs I know, now you can runa round in the fields with your friend Bonnie and chase the Butterflys again....even though you know youll never catch one. oh and dont be scared of that big old Rottweiler, Babe, she wont hurt you.

Sorry, Ive been a vet tech for over 15 years, Ive had to put many pets to sleep and as hard as that is its still harder when its one of your own.

Thankyou for you kind words. I guess the one thing that helps a little is knowing that she did end up having a happy life filled with love.

Hi DeLaUK. Sorry for you and your friend's loss. It's good to know that Tate found real love in last seven years.
    Some dogs are so special.
Our precious Teega, our eleven year old German Shepherd who died 2001, will be a good friend for her. She was another special girl.

God bless you and your friend. Tate will be waiting happily for you in Heaven.
