My Weimaraners blotchy coat?

Hi All, First timer so please be gentle...ha ha.
Hope somebody can give a bit of advice on what I think might be a problem.
I have an 11 month old Weimaraner called Oska. He's a beauty and great natured. The only person he ever bites is me (and only in fun). He's very healthy but I've noticed over the last two or threee weeks that on one side of his coat there appears small markings. It looks exactly as if he's been caught in the rain but even after a good wash they are still there. It doesn't seem to bother him at all and I've looked closely but can't see anything there. Any ideas what this might be?
    Thanks,
    MartinDJ

So he has darker 'spots'? Is there any hair loss/ thinning of the hair? Are the areas increasing, either in size or more of them? If there is no hair loss or thinning are you absolutely sure he hasnt got something like splashes of oil on him? Just curious.

I have been taking Oska down to the beach every day but it doesn't seem like oil??
It is strange as it's only on one side. There's no hair loss or hair thinning either!
I'll keep an eye on him and see if the marks fade/change as I'm going to look a right one taking him to the vets to be told it's nothing more than normal changes in his coat or....oil?
    I'll keep you informed.
    Thanks,
    MartinDJ
ps How do I add a picture of Oska?

i think it could be like a birth mark (although not appearing at birth, or at least not able to see) and with more sun exposure it comes out, like certain people who have freckles or birth marks, the marks get darker in the sun. Does that make any sense. Like it is some sort of weird pigment change. My dog is solid white, but occasionally he gets darker spots(maybe a cream/biscuit color, not really dark) it depends on the heat/cold.

To post a photo you first have to upload the photo to a website. There are several free sites if you don't have your own. Then to have the photo appear in you message click the Img button found in the row of buttons just below the subject window of your message. After clicking the Img button paste in the url or address for the photo. After entering the full address for the photo again click what will now show as the /Img button.
To see if you were successful click the Preview button found under the Options box at the bottom of the posting page. This will bring up the page as it will look when posted. If you don't see your photo then you probably have entered the wrong address. Previewing your message is always a good idea as you can see any typo's easier and correct them before you submit the post.
Many new posters have trouble with photos but once you get the procedure down it's easy.
If you want to add an avitar or small photo under you name go to your personal profile page. At the bottom of that page is the avitar control panel where you can enter the address for a small photo.
Another way to show a photo is to just directly paste the address in your message. People will have to click on the address to see the photo. Here is an example:
    http://home.flash.net/~jdebess/Photos/boysswim.jpg
That is also how the address should look when you use the Img /Img tags to show one in your message. Note the lasts part of the addresss is the file name of the actual image, in this case the photo is boysswim.jpg.
Good luck. We will help you figure it out.

With your dog being 11 months old, it's possible what you're seeing is coat change, from puppy to adult. Sun scald can also produce a mottled coat, especially if he has a tendency to sun bathe on only one side.
