Ok so I've had this parakeet for about 4 months, and her name is Jaimmee. A little skitterish, but no biting or anything. Then i fall in love with a parakeet at the pet store that looks about the same age as Jaimmee, and i get her and call her Trixie :D . Trixie is docile, clipped wings, and Jaimmee's wings aren't clipped. They have been in the same cage for a little less than 24 hours, and they have pecked at each other a little and Jaimmee seems very dominant. Trixie has not eaten or drank anything, and looks scared. Is this bad?

Hi you should always keep new birds in a seperate cage for about 30days this is incase the new bird has any illnesses which will show itself because the new bird is stressed.

When putting a new bird in with a bird you already have there will be some squabbling they should be allowed to sort there differences out aslong as there is no blood drawn by either bird.

New birds usually will not eat or drink anything for the first few days this is normal until they get used to there new surroundings.

Just keep a very close eye on them both and if this carries on longer than a few days i suggest you seperate the birds.

    thanks for that mike

they seem to be getting along well now, trixie is still a little nervous but Jaimmee is not quite as mad anymore. should I still separtate them? the pet store people said they tested all their birds for diseases, so that shouldn't be an issue as far as I know. Will they like each other better if they are in separate cages, or should they just keep together like i'm hoping they will be in the long run?

    Trixie is eating now

Trixie is eating like there is no tomorrow!!! Jaimmee looks a little confused, but is not being combative. If they start to fight over food though, what do I do?

The petstores do not test for disease and illness they say that so you wont refuse a bird if thats what your after.

Its too late to seperate them now as if the new bird has anything wrong with it which can pass on to the other bird it will have already passed.

Its very rare birds fight over food if this does happen you could try putting in a second food dish and see if that helps.

Your birds will bond with each other in time they just need to sort out there difference and all will calm down.
