hey everyone! we just got an american bulldog..and i was wondering can anyone give me any info. on them..does anyone have one here? we went to tradeday yesterday and a man there said he use to breed them and that they were really aggressive dogs..that they were extremely aggressive with kids..but then i also read on a website that they were great with kids and were very protected of their family..so does anyone have one or use to have one that can tell me something about them ? i would appreciate any help! thanks

My counsin`s got one 4 months old male, really playful "little" puppy.
I don`t know much about these dogs, but there was this accident a while ago, when an American bulldog attacked another dog and killed him. And as I know it the dog was put to sleep, because of the aggression towards other dogs, though he/she didn`t act aggressively towards people.

I think bulldogs are one of the breeds that MAY have dog aggression issues, but that doesn't mean they are aggressive to people. It is VERY important with ANY puppy that you socialize it well. He needs to be exposed to as many different kinds of people and animals and places as possible. Check with your vet about when it is safe to bring him places and then get that puppy socialized!

i have a 7 month old AB and he's got to be one of the best people dog i've ever owned. he has no ounce of people aggression in him nor with other dogs and honestly i probably do not socialize him as much as i did with my old pit bulls. dogs vary from one another just like humans do. aggression towards humans/animals i believe really relies on how the dog is raised though i know that some breeds (bully breeds) are more prone to being/showing/possessing aggression. back to my pup he's growing and he's running around with at least two other pit bulls in the yards at a time. he runs plays and has tons of fun with these dogs with no dominance issues which will need to be supervised closer in the next few months. as for kids i cannot find any kids that have the courage to play with my dog 7 months and over 70 lbs. lol. all in all these dogs are great. they're loyal. great natural guard dog instincts. continuous socialization with people, dogs, and other animals are key to these bully breeds.

I know a couple and they are great dogs. They are not overly human aggressive just good watch dogs and still I have no fear of them. Sometimes they can be dog aggressive with one another but it really depends on which dog it is and what the situation is, mostly they get along with other dogs fine. They are very big dogs though, so they can look imtimidating but they're just big sweethearts. As a future suggestion I'd say find out about a breed and research BEFORE you get a puppy, it can work out a lot better that way for both dogs and owner.

I own a 4year old female AB. She is the most loving girl i've ever had. She loves childern, she is NOT human aggressive at all but she is female dog aggressive. She's a big baby and all she wants to do is play.

AB's are very protective of their home and will not let a stranger in or anyone in for that matter if you are not home. They are very hard headed dogs and always want things their way, you can't let them have it. I use NILF (Nothing in life is free) with my AB Storm. If she wants something I make her sit first. With proper socialzation with dogs and humans AB's will be great with anyone, but with any dog in the wrong hands can be a disaster. They are very strong dogs and I would suggest getting a harness.

If you would like a few things to read about AB's here is their history,

If you would like to know more I can always post some.
