I got my budgie about a month ago. I really want him to not be scared of me but he is. He used to go on my finger but now he bites it. I really want to let him out and he would go on my shoulder or arm. When I come near him he shys away from me, how can I make him not scared of me?

Trust is a thing that takes time to build up w/a bird. Did something happen that it use to perch on you and now bites?

I have quite a few and some are more friendly than others. I wanted so bad for them to perch on me but the fought it tooth and nail for awhile. What I started with was placing my hand inside the cage and resting it on a perch. Not moving but letting them know that I am there. Eventually they got the idea. Then after awhile what I have done here is after taking them out of the cage (some needing to be taken out w/a cloth) I place them on a wooden dowel perch. Each and everyone of them seem to be more comfortable on this and then slowly learned that I am safe and friendly. I offer my finger to them and while some took it willingly, some backed away to eventually move towards my hand and perch themselves.

I have a four year old that is so excited to hold the birds but wouldn't sit still enough for them. The wooded dowel worked wonders and the birds are now learning to trust him.

Don't give up! I know it is frustrating at times, but it is all worth it in the end when your birdie trusts you and perches, nuzzles and preens its owner. I love it!

your budgie might be sick. but if you have a room any were in the house that you could lock the door and bird proof it and open the cage. be very quiet and may be he'll come out. if he starts to run away, get his perch out and put it just underneath his stomac. make sure its a room were a fan is not running or else....... :( any how, you could try putting food in your hand and put your hand in the cage in front of him. thats what i did and my parakeet soon trusted me BIG TIME!!! but he might not come to you the first time but keep on doing it and he'll soon love you! :kiss_heart:
