I thought I knew a great deal about Oscars, and have read about everything there is to read about them.....but yesterday I was shown something new by my O.

I was performing a water change and giving my tank a general vacuum.
My Oscar doesn't like this one bit and normally he gets in a huff for a few days after. However I was using the vacuum when the was a huge splash of water and the sand in my tank was thrown up everywhere in the water.
I stopped my cleaning to see what had happened and when the sand had settled I could see my silver dollars....my catfish.....and....and...my Oscar had vanished!!!! Bearing in mind he is nearly 8 inches long I thought he must have leapt from the tank. So I searched around the floor expecting to see him flapping around on the floorboards, but he was nowhere to be seen. On closer inspection I saw a large crater in the sand at the bottom of the tank and barely visible were a few flecks of orange.
He had buried himself completely on his side in a vain attempt to get away from my vacuum and me hovering above the tank

I knew Oscars had the ability to surprise and to amaze but I was completely taken aback!

So a word to the wise....never under estimate your O :D

well if that wasnt taking a stand, i don't know what it. 'you cant vacum my sand if i'm in it' !!!

i would of loved to see that!

Sometimes when i get to work youll see a rather large lobster wandering along the carpet! God knows how its getting out the aquaruium but it does!

    Take care.
