questions about a male kitty

    hello,
i got a 3 month old male kitty from the spca today. he seems healthy and they told me that he was checked by a vet and everything was fine.
after arriving home, i noticed that there are black things in his ear...is that normal?
also..i have never had a kitten before..i am just wondering is it normal for a 3 month old kitten to have his tail soiled? and what color of anus should a healthy kitten have?
i noticed on his anus, something dark...looks like dry feces..i am just wondering maybe at this age, a kitten doesnt know how to clean himself properly?

i am taking him to see a vet next week...but i just wanted to know if anyone had kittens like that before.

The black stuff in his ears, is it kind of 'crispy', flaky and maybe comes out in small chunks/pieces....very itchy? If so it could be ear mites and youll have to get some medication from the vet, theyre contagious so if you have other pets you might not want to wait too long. As for the other problem, is it the fur or skin? He may have had some diarrhea or just if hes been in a small cage and the general cleaning may not have been up to par so he may have been sitting in or laying in his 'bathroom area'.
If its just dried onto to his fur will he let you comb or brush it out?

you could always get some unscented baby wipes...or wipes for cats...and clean his butt. Maybe he just can't get it clean enough being young. Do you know his history at all? Maybe he lost his mom at a young age and did't learn proper kitty cleaning techniques.
Would love to see his picture.
Ear mites are common and can be tough to get rid of so you want to get on that quickly. Until you get him to a vet you can clean the goop out with warm water and a cotton ball as best you can.
I always swipe the goop out with a q-tip (don't go too far into the ear) and put that into a baggie to take to the vet. That way they won't charge you for doing that work and it's easy to do.

Congrats on your new kitty! What's his name? Good luck on the vet visit. I hope he turns out healthy. Can't wait to see his pics!

Hunter wasn't the cleanest of kitties when we first got him. I cleaned poos from his but quite often. (come to think of it sometimes I still have to clean his butt...long haired kitty).

But seriously...it could be that he hasn't learned what to do yet or developed that sense of "cleanliness". You know like little boys who hate to take baths and then they get all stinky...???????

    thank u all for replying...
the black in his ears..doesnt sound like ear mites. it is kind of sticky. and it doesnt come out by itself..and the cat isnt scratching his ears at all. i guess i could try cleaning it.
here are some pics of Max

He so cute and super alert! Very cuddle-worthy.

But with the cleaning the dirty bum thing, its like their balance: they'll gain it with age.
