I have a rather small 23 gal tank that contains a common plec amongst other fish including tetras. I understand that these fish will grow to 45cm; wat sort of a tank would i need to keep this fish happily in for the rest of its life? By the way, it is only 10cm long at the moment.

Plecos really need at least 45 gallons, but 55 or 75 minimum would be even better.

    Thanks Chelle!
When he gets a bit biger, il be getting him a 55 gal, then. What fish could live with him in the size tank?
    Thanks again!!! :D

Pretty much anything. You could do a few schools of tetras, some cichlids, an oscar. The possibilities are almost endless and most fish will get on just fine with a large pleco.

Hi there, Plecs do indeed grow up to 18 inches, Ive just had to get rid of one (he outgrew the tank) but they are very peaceful fish and are no trouble whatsoever, they just like to be left alone stuck on the glass, they love being fed algae pellets or discs and also a piece of bogwood to graze on if at all possible, I miss mine all the time, good luck with him....take care

One thing to avoid putting with plecos are large slow moving fish like goldfish because sometimes the pleco will try to suck the slime coat off of them.
