FALL RIVER, Mass. -- A Fall River couple is devastated after their neighbor admitted to fatally stabbing their American Staffordshire terrier pit bull.

Sonja and Tomas Robinson found their 2-year-old pit bull, D-Bo, at 2 a.m. on Thursday, bloodied and limping outside their apartment.

The stabbing occurred on Rolling Green Drive.

"He was covered in blood," said Sonja Robinson.

The neighbor, Mark Baron, told Sonja Robinson that an animal could have been responsible for the dog's death.

Baron later admitted to Fall River police and the NBC 10 News I-Team that he stabbed the dog with a large kitchen knife, claiming it was self-defense as he was outside his apartment, looking for his cat.

When asked if he has problems with dogs, Baron replied, "No, I love dogs."

The dog died in Sonja Robinson's arms.

"When I was out there holding it, the towel on the wound, it had gone through his lung," said dog owner, Sonja Robinson. "Every time he took a breath, the air would come out the hole."

"There may be someone who witnessed the incident," said Jeff Cardoza, of the Fall River Police Department. "I've had some conversation with detectives and it's going to be followed up on."

The Robinsons say a neighbor claims to have witnessed Baron lure the dog to his apartment, something Baron denies.

"He was my best friend; he was like my kid," said Tomas Robinson.

Baron has been charged with animal cruelty.

He took a large kitchen knife outside to look for his cat? What was he planning on doing, making Kitty Cutlets? Sounds fishy to me.

That just makes me sick! The worst part is that have these places don't have stiff enough laws for it to impact these jerks! They will just pay the lousy fee and are free to go. UGH!

    Horrible!!

I like how they are trying to make it into a "pit bull incident." The article starts to say the dog was an Am Staff and then says it was a pit bull. There is no such thing as an "American Staffordshire terrier pit bull," is there??

I was wondering the same thing. Pepsi is a mix of Am Staff and English Staff. She does not look like a pit bull. Is she a pit bull? I never really considered her one.

Jamiya, you're right, there is no such thing as an Am Staff Pit bull unless that is the cross breed. There are 3 breeds considered to be "Pit bulls" which are targeted when breed bans come into play. They are the APBT, the AmStaff, and the Staffordshire Terrier. All have different traits in them that make them different now, but breed wise they are often clumped together.

You can add Bull Terriers to that list. Totally different dogs, but usually included in BSL.

Omg, that pisses me off so much. Just picture your neighbor stabbing YOUR dog to death while u were gone, and most of all it dying in your ARMS. God they need to tie that mother up to a pole, stretch his nuts back, and fling em up his butthole.

Srry, I just hate ANY animal cruelty and I will express myself how I want.
