I tryin to figuire out what breed/mix of dog I have. Just gave him his new home Friday and was told he was a black lab but it's not full. Mostly black patch of white in front and small brown patches on the ears the hair is med to long.

Notice the brown markings on the ears...

He looks like he could be a Flat Coated Retriever mix or Lab/Golden Retriever mix. The reddish brown on his ears looks like sun fading, which is pretty common. The hair over the ears is fine and fades more quickly than the body coat.

Thanks for the reply. I was just thinking that labs had short hair? Max has longer hair.

Oh yea his name is Max he's 7 months old and I got him for free. I guess his previous owner is going through a divorse so she could really take care of him. He's been fixed has shots and has that new high tech chip thing a ma bob in case he gets lost.

Labs have flat hair, not necessarily short. The actual hair can be a couple of inches long, but lays flat against the skin, and they don't have the long, feathery furnishings on their legs and under belly. When you cross with a breed like a Flat Coated Retriever or Golden Retriever, they'll usually have coat that's longer, with the long furnishings on the legs and belly.

O.K. I didn't know that, thanks. I don't know a whole lot about breeds when it comes to dogs. Fish on the other hand I can spot from a mile away. I'm slowly getting away from my fish hobby though it's too much work. lol

looks like a lab/border collie to me. at first glance i would have said golden retriever but the legs and snout look too skinny to be that.

I had a dog that looked a lot like that - she was a lab/cocker spaniel mix

With so many Lab's out there various mixes are turning up in droves. So sad to go to a shelter and see so many. Thanks for giving this guy a good home.
That said I would say that there is some Border Collie in the mix.

I'm really not seeing the border collie. The face and head shape is all wrong. Besides being black and white and having medium-length fur, there's not much else to say border collie.

I'm thinking flat coat retreiver or lab mixed with just about anything. There are probably about a dozen different dogs mixed in there. :)

He sure is cute! I love coats that length.

Behavior may tell you a bit more about what breeds are mixed in there. Or it might not.
