i have a 2 year old staff x german sheppard. he is a good dog , great with my 2 yr old daughter and all other kids. he can be lively and sometimes shoots out the door for a run on his own . we have decided to get another dog now , a puppie staff. im not sure if we should get another boy or get a girl. Reggie ( my dog ) is quite big and im just wondering which would be better. would they be more likely to have a fight if we got another boy or not ? Reggie is good with other dogs. if you are a dog person your views would be appreciated.

Opposite sex is generally the best way to go. However training and socialization is the key.

Introducing them slowly and choosing a GOOD breeder!!!

or better yet, find a rescue!

And making sure that they are spayed and neutered. that can cause a lot of turmoil and problems if your not prepared or knowlegable on breeding.

If they are fixed and were fixed at a young age both of the same sexes can get along well together but if you have a male who was left intact for awhile he'll most likely have issues with another male unless that male is neutered YOUNG...lots of vets won't do it before 6mos. and it needs to be done before that in order to keep the dog from developing a sexual brain which is what causes the fights in most cases...

Best bet is to get a female and fix both dogs...
