29 gal hood w/0 middle glass

So, I was doing a WC on my 29 gal marine yesterday when my girlfriend accidentally knocked over the hood I had placed on the floor. She broke the glass casing that the flourescent light sits on.

So now there glass that was between the light and the tank itself is no longer there. As it turns out, I am picking up a new hood with PC lighting in a few days but for now I was wondering whether I can even turn the flouresecent lighting on with nothing between it and the water?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

 

i think it should be allright... maybe just lower the water level a little so theres no chance of the water touching it.. also if its on all day it might increace the water temp a little..
