There are alot of possible fish choices for a 29 gallon. Is there a certain fish that you want? then you could build a stocking plan around that particular fish.

I believe a 29 gal is too small for a JD those things can get to around 8-10" if I remember correctly. Yeah I checked and they get around 8-10" and would need at least 40 gallons a piece.

Yup, 29 is definitely too small for a JD. A convict would be good in there, maybe with a small species of pleco or a raphael cat as a tankmate.

How long has he had it? Cichlids are prone to pouting when introduced to a new environment. I'd keep trying to offer food and keep an eye on the water parameters. If he doesn't have a small jar or cave for the JD to hide in, he might want to add one to make it feel a bit more secure.

Probably just pounting, but have him check the water params just to be safe.

so when u say i need a inch of fish for eahc gallon so a oscar gets about 12 inches and there is 29 inches in a 29 gallon so ican keep a oscar in there

The 1" rule does NOT apply to larger fish. Only small, slender bodied fish like tetras, danios, & small barbs. Basically fish that stay under 3". So no, definitely don't put an oscar in there.

oh ok and how many sailfin mollies can live in there

In a 29, you can fit about 7 - 9 mollies (if you have no other fish in there).

you could have a school of neon's 7-10 and then some other fish as your center fish
