If your spending more on gas, your spending less on your pets!

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE
OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
    COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM" DAY
AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE
    THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS
    NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES
THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING
MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE
    YOU
KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF
THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

I think its around $2.80 I believe. It just keeps changing.
I must say, I'm still paying everything the same for my puppers. Vet made a wonderful $250 last monday and just bought a new bag of Innova. But I get what you mean. If there was not such high gas prices I could buy more. I won't be buying gas on the 19th.

This is not meant to be a bashing reply, but I do feel as though if one gets to voice their opinion, others are equally as entitled to voice theirs as long as it is done in a tactful and respectful manner!

I believe people often feel as though they are being ripped off by the sky-rocketing gas prices. However, the vast majority of those people are utterly and completely oblivious to the logistics behind what factors are involved in setting gas prices. Have you ever thought about what all is involved in getting the gas, you pump so generously into your car, to that gas station? Probably not! Let me give you a brief overview: Drilling, transportation (tankers and trucks), port fees, insurance fees, pipeline failures, refinery maitenance, tanker maintenance, drilling equip. maintenance, truck maintenance, warehouse maintenance, gas line maintenance, gas station gasoline containment maintenance, employees in every facet of retrieving, transporting, delivering, filling, cleaning, inspecting, researching, execs., secs., employee ed., inventory, CPA's, negotiators, importing and exporting taxes, and the list goes on for quite some time.

After you factor in all those expenses, you my friend, are getting one HE double hockey sticks of a deal!!!!!!!!

If you don't want to support the crude oil industry, you are surely not making any advances by driving around a gasoline (or diesel) fueled car/SUV/truck!!!!!!!

Oh how easy it is to point fingers!!! If one chooses to point, it is usually a good idea to point fingers at the right person(s)! (The CEO over at OPEC is the individual with the most control actually!!!)

Sure the oil companies might feel an INKLING of a pinch, but let me assure you, they will not, under any circumstances, lose massive profits. (We aren't the only country in the world that buys gas ya' know!) Maybe if the ENTIRE world did such and action for a couple of WEEKS, oil stocks will take a beating, but you sure will be paying for it, literally out of your pocket!

Since I don't have a doubt in my mind that this will not work despite every bit of optimism one may possess, and the fact that I firmly believe such scorn is based upon ignorance rather than factual information that peers through windows of unbiased education, I shall not.

What I can not fathom is the fact that people complain of soaring gasoline prices as they stand there at the gas station pumping gasoline into their own cars which is supporting the industry...there's just no logic there. If you feel so strongly about not supporting the oil industry, invest in a fuel efficient car, or even better, hybrid electric! (Now I realize that completely avoiding the purchase of gas is not feasible for most, but you would be surprised as to how many people refuse to take steps in an effort to stay away from the oil industry! Boycotting gasoline consumption for one day isn't going to cut it!)

Actually no, airline prices are hitting all time lows!

By incremental amounts, if any at all as a matter of fact!

Can I declare May 19th consumer education day where those who are blatantly uneducated about such a topic as this one, among others, take time out to research topics instead of going by what the media says and simple hearsay!?!?

    Thank you for your time!

    Have a great weekend!!! :D

Urban legend. While it would be nice to think that WE could affect gas prices.. it's just ain't realisitic. One day isn't going to hurt the oil/gas companies. A month or two.. yes.. they might feel that. But who is going to be able to go months without fuel? Not I.

    Nice idea, tho...

MY BAbY SHIH POO !!!!! You are so correct .
One day is not changing a thing .
I think it is time we ,as Americans grew up ,stopped fussing about everything and just be proud we live in a country that lets us say what we think .
We pay 1.79 ,I ain't fussing ....I mean WHY ? it iwll rise ,it will go down again ...Economy will slow ,will rise again ,you go to bed and if you ain't dead ...you get up the next day ....Life is real ...gas is a thing .Cope with it ...talk to a shrink ...visit a friend ...teh world revolves around ,we need to chill and just ride it out .it has done this beofre and will again .All the fussing and mouthing and lets boycot this and stay away that gets your name in the local paper ...Big deal ! You can just send your name in and tehy will print it and you don't gotta do nothing for it ....
    I find it all funny
everyone wants gas ...no one wants to pay the price ....everyone wants the government to do something ....no one wants to actually do anything except not buy gas one day ,so all will go fill up the night before ...still gotta go to work ,the store ,shop ,visit your mom ,friends ,go party ,go to the doctor etc....Whats the big deal ,you gotta have it ,you gotta pay for it ...just do it or ride a bycycle or a horse for the rest of your life. Then you would make a difference ,not one day when all ,including you will be in a long line to fill up the night before so you can protest that day and still do what you gotta do .
Shih poo ...HOW RIGHT YOU ARE !

    AMEN to that Malti, amen!!!

The rest of your post is right on target as well!!! :y_the_best: Gas prices are a complex, yet simple at the same time, configuration of numbers that are based upon endless factors which leads to "rollercoaster pricing"...just ride out the wave folks, there's no magic wand in this case! There are most definitely more important things to complain and fuss over than the price that everyone pays at the pump, believe me!

Alright, I'll stop preaching now! :D

    Oh, and interesting article deb!

    Thanks Shihpoo .
I just don't get it .Guess I may be dumb or something but it seems to me everyone wants to boycot BIG businesses for one reason or the other .
Well ,the way I see it is this ...yeah ...they make money ,they have to .Big business is the foundation of our economy .
Now if we boycot the food industry ...where would it come from ,if we boycot the clothes industry ,what would we wear ,if we boycot the housing industry ,where would we live ,all this is our way of life .Big Businesses create jobs ,money flow ,now if we bring em all down ,who and what do we have to supply that ...goverment ?
Has anyone give any thought to this ...lets say we boycot the gas statiions one day ,How many employees will be sent home ,they would not get paid for that day ,most live on week to week checks ,now how are they going to buy the gas they need ,food ,housing ,if they don't get a full weeks pay .Not as if it is a vacation day or something .
Then we could boycot that ,then we could go somewhere else and boycot ,how are we gonna get there ,well we fly (uses fuel ) ,we drive (uses fuel ) we ride a bus (uses fuel ) ....or we just yell our heads off ..."OH MY LORD ,BIG BUSINESS IS MAKING MONEY !! ) We are either aiding them or we use the horse I spoke of earlier ,of course Poogirl would have to use the lasso for something other than Monster's hubby and we could never get to her house to party again ,cause booze is BIG BUSINES ..
Now ,the way I see this whole thing is 'bite the hand that feeds you "
Without profits ,oil companies ,automakers ,builders ,clothing ,food companies etc. cannot hire ,pay ,expand ,grow ,fund or maintain OUR lifestyles .
I just keep waiting for someone to boycot the use of bandaids ,since i use so many and they went up in price ,I may have to join that one ...LOL ! Oh and I guess we won't have this place soon to talk ,cause the internet is BIG BUSINESS and there will be a boycot of it soon ...LOL
Put all joking aside ...we are trampling on our own way of life...

Great points MyBaby! It's very easy to take things for granted.. sure, we all enjoy the prices when they are low (who doesn't!!), but as soon as they spike for a time it starts quite a stir. Most people don't bother to think about how the product (whatever it may be) gets to us.. just as long as it gets to us. Would I prefer lower gas prices, sure! But, am I ready to buy a hybrid electric car? No. I will continue to pump gas into my little Ford Escort and drive on..

As Malti pointed out (loved your examples by the way! ), we could take this so many steps further... boycotting industry after industry and where would that take us? They are all in it to make money and we WANT the products so we buy it.. it's part of the circle of life.

Personally, I have more important things to spend my time thinking about. Worrying about gas prices is not even on my list. Just my 2 cents!

Monster is right.. this subject should be on the general board.

Well ours is about $2.75 to $3.00. I would not be fazed at all not buying gas on that day, just fill up today tommorow or whatever. I have not been bothered by the rise either. I know it will eventually go back down. To a reasonable 1.90 or so again. When I hear people complain, I say there are worse things to worry about.

All that you have mentioned is correct as far as how the gas gets to us. But one.

My family has been in the oilfield business for ever. My man even drills. So don't think I don't know anything.

But, there is absolutely no reason gas prices should be this high. Did you know, that Texas alone could fule the U.S. Mexico and Canada for the next 121 years with out one worry, and thats just on the wells that have been drilled and are producing. Don't get off thinking that we need to import, and drill more. Frankly we don't.
Brookshire Tx alone could fuel the whole US without a doubt for the next 10 years without worries.
Did you also know that a barrel of diselate (what comes out before its refined) is going for a whoping $55 for 55 galons??? Oh boy!!!
Diesel comes off in the refinery. It takes a whole bunch of $0.04 to produce 1 gal of deisel. Gas is next. It takes a whoping $0.11 to come out of the refineries. Crue oil and petro is next, then we're breaking down to karosene, propane, butane, and plastics.

Where is your money going??? Profit. We have wells, I know whats produced day in and day out. I know exactly what it costs from point of discovery, to drilling, to hauling, refining, and to you car. And nothing adds up to the rediculousness of the prices we're having to pay.

So yes, one day may not effect the companies in a drastic, but it does show that we will take a stand and show that we've had enough.

We're paying these prices because we don't have a choice. BUT WE DO!
Frankly I'm tired of it. I can't afford it, and something needs to be done.

Read up in your history. everywhere there are monopolies. Big Oil businesses wanting more $$$. What better way to get that money than to blame it on the war. OH BOY!!! The US is greedy in the fact that they would rather import the oil than to use what we already have.
Did you know we export just as much oil as we import?? So where are we saving there?

Been there, done that!!! As a former economics major in college before choosing a different major at the very last minute, I can assure I have extensively studied the solid facts! I did in fact do boundless research in the oil industry field in regards to the economic side of that industry, as a matter of fact, that was the very last study I did before switching!

We must agree to disagree on this one!

Quite honestly, I am not quite sure that the above statement is true, but I will not say it isn't. After all, the e-mail posted in the first post under this topic was implied to be the truth, but was far off target in many ways.

However, the more important issue here is the undeniable fact that the U.S. does not take as much oil from our homeland and surrounding countries (i.e. as you mentioned: Canada and Mexico) as we do from others, simply because there are economic benefits to our country and the countries from which we import from, which, in a round-about way, impacts our economic standings (positively). Yet another reason why it is done is for sheer precautionary measures. Such a a stance is executed and economically termed as a "safety net"! This also ties in, yet is separate at the same time, to our SPR. These concepts are all about strategy and have yet to go awry in all the years (many) it has been around!

That is just skimming the surface of what expenses are involved regardless of whether it comes from the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Middle East, etc. (Just b/c it comes from our nearby countries or our own, there is no justification, economically speaking, for saying it should be cheap as a result!)

Yep, sure is, that's what big business (any business really) is all about! Although, that profit does not fall solely into our government's hands, there are multiple other sources in which that profit is heading separate from that of our gov't! The portion of the money that our gov't receives as a result is not used foolishly and without thought, the VAST majority of the gov't profit is used responsibly in an economically benefiting manner!

Such a statement is incorrect, for in both the long-run and short-run, it costs us more to import! Regardless, the economic benefits (along with benefits apart from an economic point of view) far outweigh the drawbacks of doing so! As I mentioned earlier, there are strategic reasons why importing is done!

No, I must disagree, for it is not true!

This is the last I will comment on this issue, for it is far too complex to try and debate in such brevity without full economic understanding!

    Kindest Regards! :D

(**This topic really does belong over in the general forum! :y_the_best: )

Ok, I just have to weigh in on this one. First of all, the expenses Samsintentions listed are just a drop in the bucket. You're forgetting all the overhead expenses (I am an oil and gas accountant). It's a much more complicated process than just drilling, refining and transporting. What about the salaries of the engineers that spend years planning the drillling? The geologists that find the oil? The accountants that pay the bills and distribute the revenues? The landmen who negotiate the leases? The wells that come up dry? I'm simplifying this, but you get the idea. And if you do have wells, then you know that 12.5 - 25% of the revenues GO DIRECTLY TO THE OWNER OF THE MINERALS. Yes, that's not just profits, but revenues. It's also important to mention the income that's also created for the states. One example: Texas gets 7.5% of any value received for natural gas severed. Again, that's not 7.5% of the profit, it's 7.5% off the top. I don't mean to ramble about this, but it does hit a nerve with me. I am also paying the higher prices at the pump, but I realize how strongly our economy is impacted by energy prices.

Having said all that...... Tell you what, I will gladly participate in the "don't buy for a day" plan for SEVERAL days, on one condition.... If the person who originated this idea will also agree to publicize a "buy gas like crazy" day when the price of a barrel of oil goes down again (as it inevitably will). What's that? It'll never happen? Thought so. Nobody was crying when oil was less than $10 a barrel and hundreds of thousands (if not more) people were out of work.

Samsintentions, this rant was certainly not directed at you personally. I just wanted to bring to light some facts that most people don't know.
