Labs do have the habit of retrieving things you don't want. Duke once brought me a rotten fish head he found at the lake. He thought it was the best prize ever.

that is funny, it reminds of once when I was in GA visitng relatives who lived in a trailer park in the middle of no where, and they had this "lake" which looks more like a sespool, so anyway sentry being part lab wanted to swim!! so we started playing fetch and then the stick went under the water so she went in after it and when she popped back up, she had some sort of rusted old rifle! and we thought ok we had better get away from this place,not knowing what to do with the rifle we threw it back in, she went back in to get it! so I had to walk her away while my bf put the gun back in the water!
