a heartwarming "kitty's home" story

a local woman lost her 2 year old Maine Coon-type cat in 2002. Inside only and he got out and didn't return. She did all the things people do when their pets are missing - posters, call the neighbors, check with vets/shelter. But no kitty.
Months went by and she figured he'd become the victim of the same thing most missing cats do around here - and that's wildlife dinner.
The woman has a couple of dogs and 2 other cats. One cat in the home didn't like the missing cat. All other animals got along fine with him.
This past August this lady saved a cat from a tree in her backyard. Skinny cat and as soon as she got him down he took off. She wondered about him but never saw him again and assumed he went home.
Over Christmas weekend the same skinny cat came back and since it was cold out she brought him in. She posted signs around town, called shelters/vets - no one was missing a cat of that description.
Well her dogs liked the cat, and one of her other cats liked the cat. And the cat adored her husband. When her husband picked up the cat he (cat not her husband) would start to purr and make biscuits. Only problem was one of the cats hated the newcomer. But they'd work on that.
So off to the vet for shots and a checkup they went.
It was determined this 6 pound cat was approx. 5-6 years old and a neutered male. The vet had a brain storm and went to get the records of her mising cat.
Hmmmmm....same coloring, about the age the missing cat would be, neutered male. hmmmm....only difference was missing cat weighed 20 pounds when he disappeared and this one weighed 6 pounds.
It was her cat  he was so thin and it had been so long she didn't recognize him. But her pets did LOL and he recognized her husband.
They have no idea where he's been since 2002 but from what I'm told he's pretty content to be back where he started.

    I love happy endings!

I'm suspecting that her cat was nabbed by someone that thought she was a beauty. And probably was kept as an indoor cat there too, then managed to door dart her way to freedom. Cats have an uncanny way of finding their way back home and I suspect that this is exactly what happened. Since it has been several years since she went missing, the nabbers may have moved many miles away causing it to be a lloonnngg journey for the kitty finding her way home.
