we have a new addition to the family. His name is Ecko. he's 9 weeks old.part bull dog part shepard. oso is okay with him so far but at one one time thay both had thier own bone and the puppy looked ot oso and he(oso) started growling. what kinda behavior should I expect and what do or how do I deal with meaness. or is it just him (oso) playing alpha.

Oso was telling the pup "Mine!" If the pup backed off, then everything was appropriate. I generally try to let them work things out for themselves, as long as it never progresses to actual fighting. Of course, with a puppy you must always supervise when they are together to make sure the pup remains safe.

If resource guarding becomes an issue, check out the books sticky at the top of this forum and look under the resource guarding books. There is one called "Mine!" that is quite good.

I have a feeling that oso is not use to the other addition. It might take some time for the dog to share and relize(sp?) that they are going to be in the same house they need to get along. 8)
