A new idea for Freckles, Herding School

I just found out about this school near Houston that trains herding dogs. Though they mainly train purebred herders for ACK Trials a friend thought that the owner would work with any dog that showed an interest. I plan on scheduling Freckles for an Instinct Test. This is a description of that test:

The instinct test takes place in a small holding pen, usually with three really dog broke sheep. The dog is introduced to sheep on lead and Joy (or the handler) will walk the dog around the pen with the sheep. The dog should start to watch the sheep and attempt to move the sheep or group them in some fashion. Some dogs take a while to warm up to it.

Freckles really NEEDS a job and this would be great if he has the knack. If those sheep looked like giant tennis balls then there would be no problem.

I keep meaning to get both of my dogs instinct tested, but I just never seem to find the time. Let us know how it goes!

I have heard, though, that once you "turn a dog on" to herding, you can never shut him off again. :shock:

 

that would be a lot of fun for him! That is too funny about the tennis balls!
