i saw this on another forum- author is unknown.

 I STOOD BY YOUR BED

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

    I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you,
    I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
Your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today,
    Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
    I want to re-assure you,
    That I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house,
As you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "It's me."

    You looked so very tired,
    And sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know,
    That I was standing there.

    It's possible for me,
To be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty,
    "I never went away."

    You sat there very quietly,
Then smiled, I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you.

    The day is over…
I smile and watch you yawning,
    And say, "good-night, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning."

An when the time is right for you,
    To cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you,
And we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you,
There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out…
Then come home to be with me.

Grrrrr. Crying at work again. That one took me by surprise. I thought the dog was dying, but when it got to the "I was with you at my grave today" I lost it. Do you think my Hocus is with me? I failed her so badly.

 That is a great poem and brings tears to my eyes, because it reminds me of my old girl Niki. I miss her SO much, but I feel her with me at times, I know she still watches over us.

    Thanks for the poem. :)

That poem was beautiful. It makes me think of Izzy.
The other night I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I was able to get up and walk to the bathroom without tripping over Izzy or having her follow me in only to sit and stare at me. And for the first time I realized how much I truly miss her. I sat there on the toilet at 3Am crying my eyes out. I miss her so much.

Jamiya dogs do not know failure. To them you are a shining star reagardless. I do not know the story behind Hocus. But I do know if she could have talked she would have told you how great you are and how much she loved you. Regardless of what you feel you may have done wrong, you loved her. And for a dog that is all they need.

    Patiently
As I see the Gates of Heaven
And I know I'm headed home
I see the great St. Peter
    But slas, he's not alone.

The tears have blurred my vision
    But I'd know her anywhere
She sits and waits so patiently
She knows I'll soon be there.

I drop to my knees and call her name
    She responds with bounding glee
    She whines and she cries
The joy is in her eyes
    She's waited so patiently.

    I know it's truly Heaven
For that it's plain to see
    My faithful friend and companion
    Is once again with me.
