A specific spot to elimanate

How do I train my puppy to elimanate in a specific area of my backyard?

You could try using a leash at first. Take him to the designated area and say "Go potty", give treats once he goes in the designated area. I'm not sure this would work off leash too though. You might have to practice on-leash and off frequently for this to be effective.

There are also treated posts that you place in the ground that are supposed to attract dogs to go to the bathroom in the specific area where the post is. I'm not sure how effective these are as I have never tried them.

Or you could give praise for all outside potties and a special treat only for potties 10 ft within the designated area. Once that's mastered then you with only give treat rewards for potties 5ft within the designated area and then only treat rewards for potties IN the designated area. The reason for doing this in gradual intervals is that trying to get the pup to go in one small immediately might be too confusing for some dogs especially if they have previously gone in various areas of the yard. Good luck.

I did have luck with starting out by taking the dogs out on leash to a specific place. When I finally stopped using the leash, they seemed to prefer that spot. But then I stopped paying attention and they gradually started going elsewhere, so I would say you need to keep tabs on it and keep rewarding for using that spot every once in a while.
