Whiskey, my Maine Coone that has been living with my dad for about 12 years now, is coming to live with us in mid-September. He's been an outdoor cat and is one of those that 'eats' things...
I'm going to take him for a good checkup before he comes here. I know I need to get him leukemia tested and his shots up to date, but don't think I can get a fecal since my stupid stepmother won't let him in the house. :x

Can anyone think of anything else to get him checked for that I'm forgetting? :0011: He had his Eliza test and all his needles (and neuter) when I first got him and boosters for about the first five years, but dad hasn't kept his vacs up. Is there a broad spectrum dewormer? I'm going to get some Revolution for him to cover most, but do you think he should have some Droncit or Drontol or Strongid as well? It's been a while since we've had an "outdoor" indoor.

I can't think of anything else....does the leukemia test also test for FIV?
What is an Eliza test? I don't think I've ever heard of that before.

Oh, the Eliza test is what they call the flv test here (in Canada/Nova Scotia). A negative is always a good thing. :) I'm sure he's okay but lord knows what he's gotten into from being an outside cat for so long.
I never thought of an FIV test - I wonder if she'll test for that with no symptoms? I can't risk my babies' health!!

My vet does a combo test which tests for Felv and FIV. Best of luck with your new cat...hopefully, he will be disease free and healthy. :D

I don't think it's a bad idea to use a dewormer. It's supposed to be safe on our kitties. The thougt of tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms makes me :-& ! I think the worst side effects to Drontal tabs are vomiting and salivation. Good luck with Whiskey!

Well, he's coming on Friday night. I've made an appointment for him with the vet and they do have the FIV/FELV combi-tests, so thanks for letting me know about that! :) He's also going to get a broad spectrum dewormer and a good going over, with a nail trim. I won't be able to get a fecal so I'll just have to wait till he's here and then send one over.
My question is now, should I leave him in Kevin's room for a few days or let him out right away? My SPCA cats (the ones I've adopted) kinda just got brought in and let out into the G.P. because they're rushed and need the carriers back and it's worked okay.. He's also got a bad habit of jumping through door screens so I guess we'll have to leave the windows closed for a bit. At least I'll have a full weekend to see how it goes before I go back to work. <fingers crossed>
...Now to give Goliath a bath... :m9:
